About

VocabKuizu is a vocabulary game you play with your hands. Hold your phone up, read the word, and tip it forward when you know it. Tip it back for "Not sure" — you'll see the definition, and the word comes round again later while the answer is still fresh. A round is fifteen words and about a minute. It feels like a game because your whole body is in it, not just your thumb. HONEST SCORING Most flashcard apps take your word for it. That's how you end up feeling ready and then blanking on the day. VocabKuizu counts only the words you knew on sight. Words you recovered on a second pass, or answered after a hint, are shown separately — useful to know, but they don't inflate your score. EVERY WORD HAS A HINT Press and hold a word to see its root and origin. "Obsequious" is Latin ob- (toward) plus sequi (to follow). "Egregious" is e- (out of) plus grex (flock) — standing out from the herd. Roots make words stick in a way definitions alone don't. PASTE YOUR OWN LISTS Typing fifty words on a phone keyboard is a hundred text fields, so don't. Paste a list and it works out the format — tabs, commas, dashes, colons, or word then definition on alternating lines. Numbered handouts and bulleted lists are handled too. For 360 common school and test words — analyze, photosynthesis, perpendicular, suffrage and hundreds more — the card fills itself in: a hint about the word's roots, its prefixes and suffixes, and several example sentences, a different one each time the word comes round. FREE, AND STAYS FREE • SAT Core — 190 high-frequency words • GRE Essentials — 204 harder words • Academic English — 60 words for TOEFL and IELTS • Three lists of your own, up to 40 words each All three built-in decks are complete. Nothing in them is held back. UNLIMITED LISTS — ONE PAYMENT If you want to bring your own vocabulary in quantity, a single purchase raises the limit to 50 lists of up to 1,000 words each. No subscription. ALSO • Ask for the word given its meaning, not just the other way round • Choose how long the definition stays up, 2 to 5 seconds • Tap any word to hear it read aloud • Four themes: auto, light, dark and sepia • A tap-only mode if you'd rather not tilt • Export any list as text NO ACCOUNTS, NO TRACKING There is no sign-up and no server of ours. Your lists and your progress live on your phone and go nowhere else. Studying works fully offline — only the one-off purchase needs a connection, and only when you make it. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers.Read more
