About

Tanica subtracts the detour from the saving, and ranks on what is left. The cheapest station is often not the best one. Driving eleven kilometres to save two cents costs more than it returns, and no app tells you so. THE SAVING, MINUS THE DETOUR The price gap times the litres you actually put in, minus the fuel the detour burns — and that detour is burned at the price of the station you are driving to, not the one you are leaving. Below twenty-five cents of net gain, Tanica will not sell you a bargain. ON MY WAY Give it a destination: the app searches a three-kilometre corridor along the route, then asks Apple Maps for the real detour — out to the station and back onto the road — for the best candidates. MEMBERS-ONLY STATIONS, COUNTED HONESTLY A station that requires a membership card is marked as such and kept out of the best choice, unless you say you are a member. A price you cannot pay is not a price. ON THE WRIST AND ON THE HOME SCREEN A standalone Apple Watch app that fetches the data itself, two widgets, a Live Activity that follows a trip, and Siri. PRICE ALERTS, ON THE DEVICE Set a threshold on a station: the phone checks in the background, at most once an hour, and tells you when the price drops. The list of stations you watch exists nowhere but on your phone. AROUND THE WORLD Station by station in France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Mexico, Argentina and Australia (New South Wales and Tasmania) too, from each country's public body: the price is shown in your currency and unit first, with the pump price underneath. Elsewhere, average or regulated prices published by the authorities of some fifty countries, converted at central bank rates. The Average price widget shows the one for your region. WHAT LEAVES THE APP Our relay receives nothing but the fingerprint of the copy you already have: prices for the whole country you are in come down, and every calculation happens on the phone. Apple Maps receives your starting point, your destination and the candidate stations — that is what computing a route means. FREE, AND WHAT PRO ADDS The map, the list, favourites, the net saving itself, the widgets, the watch and Siri are free, with no ads and no account. Pro adds On My Way, the Live Activity and price alerts: as a yearly subscription or a lifetime purchase, shared with your family. Prices in Québec: Régie essence Québec, Régie de l'énergie, re-read every five minutes and shown as published. Tanica is not mandated by the Régie de l'énergie, nor by the Government of Québec. Elsewhere, only public bodies, each named in the app. Savings, rankings and averages are Tanica's own calculations. Tanica Pro: a yearly auto-renewable subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. The subscription renews at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period; manage it in your Apple Account settings.
