Graincount: Microstructure is a planar grain-size worksheet that keeps a human at the eyepiece. It opens on a labeled synthetic worked example, so the whole workflow is visible before you import anything of your own. Does it segment grains for me? No, and that is deliberate. You import a micrograph as immutable evidence, then place, classify, and weight every intercept crossing or grain tally yourself; the app's job is geometry, arithmetic, and record-keeping, never automated detection. How do my marks become a grain size? A two-point calibration against a feature of known length (nm, um, or mm) fixes the scale. Accepted marks on drawn intercept lines pool into a Heyn-style mean intercept, while counts inside planimetric frames yield grains per square millimetre and an equivalent-circle diameter, with sample standard deviation reported across fields. Will the number survive an audit? Every commit becomes an immutable revision: the snapshot is canonicalized, hashed with SHA-256, and chained to its parent. You can inspect any revision's diff, restore an older one as a new revision, and export the worksheet as a project package, CSV, or PDF that states its own limitations.
