BriefLotse

A letter from the government office, the job center, your health insurance company, or your landlord—and you don't understand a word? BriefLotse explains what it says. In simple language, in German or English. HOW IT WORKS 1. Scan the letter or select a photo 2. Wait a moment 3. Read the explanation—or have it read aloud FOUR SECTIONS, ALWAYS THE SAME • What's it about? – Who is writing, and about what? • What is being asked of me? – What the letter itself requests • Is there a deadline? – The date is highlighted • What does it say? – The content in easy-to-understand sentences READING ALOUD INCLUDED Each explanation can be read aloud—directly on your device, without internet, and at no cost. Purchase Once, Done No subscription. The app includes 20 letters. If you need more, simply purchase an additional pack—whenever you want. NOTHING IS SAVED No account, no registration, no advertising, no tracking. The photo remains on your device, and the text recognition runs there (Google ML Kit, on the device). For the explanation, only the recognized text is transmitted in encrypted form, explained by an AI language model (Claude from Anthropic), and then discarded. Before anything is transmitted for the first time, the app explicitly asks for your consent. FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND OFFICIAL GERMAN Whether German is your native language or not: BriefLotse translates officialese into everyday language. Large font, clear symbols, TalkBack support. Runs on Android 8 and later. IMPORTANT: NO LEGAL ADVICE BriefLotse explains what the letter says. The app does not tell you what to do and does not replace legal advice. For decisions, consult an advice center (migration counseling, social welfare organization, consumer protection agency) or a lawyer. The explanation is generated automatically and may contain errors – in case of doubt, the letter takes precedence. BriefLotse is a private service provided by mabu:design and is not affiliated with any government agency.
