About

Roman numerals are read out loud — and written with a fingertip. MCMXLV appears, the child says "one thousand nine hundred forty-five", the app listens and validates. Then 1945 appears, and it is their turn to write MCMXLV. Card after card, decoding becomes reading, and writing becomes a reflex. A Roman numeral is not read in one go: it is taken apart. Faced with XLIV, a child who writes the answer has time to count — ten, fifty minus ten, forty, plus four… Out loud and in rhythm, that time disappears: either the form is recognised, or the hesitation is heard. That is what Flash Vocal measures, and no multiple-choice quiz can check it. Three games, from I to MMMCMXCIX • Read out loud — the Roman numeral appears, the child says the number. Recognition runs on the device and validates word by word • Write by choosing — the number appears, the child recognises its Roman form among four, where the classic mistakes hide: IIII, VI for IV, XXXX for XL, DDC for DC • Write on the Roman keypad — seven keys, I V X L C D M, and nothing else: the form is no longer recognised, it is produced. That gesture is what anchors the subtraction rule A path of 27 steps • I to V, then VI to X, then XI to XXX, XXXI to L, LI to C, the hundreds alone from C to M, CI to M, and finally everything, I to MMMCMXCIX • Every range is played three times: read it, write it, then both alternating — that is where the back and forth settles in • The keypad arrives gradually: every other card from XI on, alone beyond C, where four spellings of MCMXLV can no longer be told apart • Three reviews from the start — at X, at C, at M — that make the child read and write everything seen so far • One-minute sessions: 1, 2 or 3 stars depending on correct answers What you follow • Result screen: a pace indicator (animals, bicycles or racing cars, the child chooses) and how the session felt • Statistics: reaction and pronunciation time for every spoken answer, failed attempts for every written one • Review sheet for each step, to read before playing • Optional daily reminder, which only fires on days without a session Who it is for • Years 5 and 6 — Roman numerals are on the curriculum, and century numbering rests on them • Years 7 and 8 — history names centuries in Roman numerals all year long; stumbling on the reading means losing the thread of the lesson • Adults — deeds, book chapters, clock faces, names of kings and popes, engraved dates: the app has no childish interface • Teachers — up to 30 pupils followed separately Free and subscription The first two ranges, I to X, are free in all three games, review included: seven steps out of twenty-seven, with no time limit and no limit on sessions, for one profile. The subscription opens the tens, the hundreds, the thousands and the Roman keypad. Family (3 profiles) and Education (30 profiles) plans, for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 1 year. Automatic renewal, cancellable at any time in your Google Play account settings. Privacy Speech recognition runs entirely on the device. No speech is transmitted, no recording is kept. The app works 100% offline, with no ads, no required account and no tracking. Only anonymous technical reports are sent in case of a crash, to fix faults — with no personal or voice data whatsoever. Outgoing links and the subscription are behind a parental gate. Available in sixteen languages: the app speaks the language of the device. English voices download once, then everything works offline.Read more
