Berryle

Berryle is a crystal habit bench for mineral collectors, geology students, and lapidary enthusiasts. Using real crystallographic mathematics, it simulates, measures, and archives the three-dimensional growth forms of twelve minerals — from beryl and quartz to tourmaline, garnet, corundum, and beyond. Everything runs fully offline; your collection stays on your device. On the Grow bench, draggable sliders control each crystallographic form's central distance while a geometrically correct polyhedron builds itself in real time. Rotate the shaded or wire-frame 3D model freely, read out habit class, elongation ratio, face count, and area distribution per form, then save the result as a numbered Plate in your personal Vault. The Atlas tab puts a curated reference library at your fingertips. Browse named habit presets, interfacial-angle tables, and physical properties for every mineral in the catalog. Eight illustrated feature guides — striations, phantoms, scepters, double terminations, etch pits, and more — explain what to look for and how to read it in the field. The Read tab turns your camera into a profile-angle meter: place three pins on a real crystal photograph and Berryle computes the interfacial angle, then ranks it against every predicted form-pair for the mineral you choose. Plate cards in the Vault store your 3D habits alongside your own photographs, field notes, and linked measurements. On iOS, each Plate can be rendered as a habit certificate — a typeset page carrying the shaded crystal figure, a gilt seal, a full Miller-index legend, and the interfacial-angle table — ready to save to your photo library and share.
