About

Manage steam. Drive the D51. Work the regulator and reverser, control wheel slip, and maintain boiler pressure. Enjoy the difference your driving makes through sound, instruments and moving machinery in a landscape iPhone steam locomotive simulator. YOUR CONTROLS SHAPE THE RUN Operate the regulator, reverser, brake, cylinder drains, bypass valve, sanding and whistle. Acceleration, slip and steam use change with cutoff, boiler pressure, train load, gradient and weather. Firing and feedwater are automatic. Choose a fireman skill level and balance steam production against consumption. WATCH THE MACHINERY WORK Four driving wheels and a Walschaerts valve gear animation follow wheel rotation and reverser position. Tap the cylinder to watch the pistons, chamber pressures and water quantities while the simulation continues. White steam flows from the open drains. Exhaust and whistle sounds respond to exhaust or steam conditions. TRY DIFFERENT CONDITIONS • Five loads: locomotive only, 5 or 10 passenger coaches, or 30 or 40 freight wagons. • Level track, 10‰ or 20‰ uphill gradients, with a level approach or an uphill start. • A 10km gradient section on the Shintoku side of the old Karikachi line, with a route guide. • Clear or rainy weather, −10°C or 20°C, and three fireman skill levels. • Finite coal, water and sand, plus the effects of wheel slip and water-hammer damage. LEARN, OBSERVE AND REVIEW A six-step departure tutorial and an operating guide with a labelled mechanism diagram help you learn the controls. Pause in State/Instruments to inspect internal values and trends. End a run to see train and wheel speed curves, statistics and advice based on your driving. No ads, in-app purchases or account registration. Driving works offline. Requires iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Landscape orientation. The interface and in-app instructions support English and Japanese. Valve motion, thermal and adhesion calculations, and the mechanism drawing include approximations. Train weights use representative values. The Karikachi section is read from a published gradient diagram; boundaries are approximate and curve resistance is omitted. It does not reproduce a complete route with scenery, stations, signals or timetables. It is not for operator training or real-world performance calculations.Read more
