About

Tap near a tension rod, and Lugwise tells you which way to turn it. Every drum tuner shows a number. Lugwise shows the head. The ring is your drum seen from above — one node for every rod — and it fills in as you go: green where a lug is in, blue where it is flat and needs tightening, orange where it is sharp and needs loosening, with the cents beside each. The rod to tap next is marked, in the cross pattern every tuning guide teaches. When the last lug lands, the head reads Even. EDGE FOR LUGS, CENTRE FOR THE NOTE A light tap near a rod rings the lug tone. One hit in the middle rings the drum's note, shown big enough to read from across the room and checked against the target you set: Tighten, Loosen or In tune, to the cent. BOTH HEADS Tune the resonant head against the batter: equal, a minor third, a fourth or a fifth above, or a minor third below. Lugwise works out what each reso lug should read and tells you when the pair sits on the interval. EVERY DRUM IN THE KIT Kick, snare, rack and floor toms from 8" to 24", each with its usual lug count and a sensible starting range. Set a target note for every drum, space the toms a minor third, a major third or a fourth apart, and see at a glance which drums in the kit are done. KITS, REMEMBERED Save the studio kit and the jazz kit side by side. Every drum keeps its note, its lug count, its head interval and its last lug readings. THE STRIKE, TAKEN APART The last strike's spectrum, every mode labelled with its ratio to the lowest, how loud the overtones ring against the note, and the sustain: how long the drum takes to fall 30 dB. 5, 6, 8, 10 OR 12 RODS The ring redraws for the drum in front of you. Choose how close is close enough: ±5 cents in the studio, ±10 for most work, ±20 for a changeover at a gig. IT LISTENS, NEVER RECORDS Each strike is measured on the phone as it happens and thrown away. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent. No account, no subscription, no ads, and it works with no connection at all. Pitch comes from the spectrum of each strike, not a period detector, because a drum's overtones are not multiples of its note. Work in a quiet room, one tap at a time. One payment. No subscription.Read more
