Costas works out the should-cost of your parts and complete assemblies straight from a STEP file – on iPhone or iPad. Your CAD data never leaves the device. HOW IT WORKS • Open a STEP file (.step/.stp) – a single part or a complete assembly • Costas breaks the assembly down into its parts, recognises standard parts such as screws, nuts, washers and pins, and suggests the right manufacturing process for every made part • Geometry is analysed per process: pockets, holes and setups for milling, bends and flat pattern for sheet metal, the cross-section for extrusions • You get the should-cost of your assembly, broken down by cost type such as material, machining, setup, tooling, logistics and overhead • Change material, quantity, process and manufacturing region – costs update instantly OPTIMISE COSTS Costas suggests alternative materials and manufacturing processes matched to your quantity – casting instead of milling, for example, once the tooling pays off. See at a glance how the price changes with quantity and between manufacturing regions. PREPARE FOR PRICE NEGOTIATIONS When a supplier announces a price increase, check it against how wages, energy, producer prices and raw materials have actually moved in their manufacturing region since the last price date. Costas shows which increase is justified and which isn't, and puts your arguments into a PDF for the meeting.
