About

I write this from the counter after the last coat left. A wool sweater came in with a ring I would have called wine if I were guessing. I held it to the glass, tapped the blot, and the phone named tannin. Then it asked for the fibre I actually had, not the one I hoped for. The protocol is not a slogan. It names the bottle, the dose, the water heat, and how long to leave it. Wool has its own ceiling. Silk has a shorter list of things that will ruin it. I keep the shelf honest so the steps call for what I still hold. If a soak is running I set the timer and the phone taps my pocket when the bath is done. I can add five minutes from the banner or rinse now. We log the ticket while they are still talking. Order number, the photograph, the warning they signed with a finger on the glass. Their name sits with a number that is already cut short. After the wash I stamp lifted or lingered and I can pull a later picture from the library. That stamp teaches the phone later. Nothing of theirs goes to a server. There is no account to open. On slow mornings I open shop memory. Which families keep coming back. If I need a card for the counter I print one or send a PDF from the share sheet. Care marks on a sewn tag can be read in the same camera pass when the print is clear enough. I used to keep this in my head and on scraps. The scraps lied.Read more
