It calculates the critical angle of your gemstone from the refractive index, so you know exactly when light is fully reflected back to the viewer instead of escaping through the stone. • Critical angle: enter the refractive index (quartz, topaz, corundum or garnet) and see arcsin(1/n), the angle of total internal reflection. • Crown and pavilion angles: adjust the angles by sliding and check that the pavilion is behind the critical angle so the stone returns light. • Index gear: choose 64, 72, 80 or 96 teeth, see the step angle and the repeat interval of the main facets. • Proportions: table size, total depth and recommended ranges for a round brilliant cut. • Weight and yield: estimate the finished carat weight from diameter, depth and specific gravity, and calculate the yield percentage from the rough stone. • Polishing sequence: from coarse grinding through pre-polish and ceramic polish to finishing, with rotation speeds. • Material list and a shareable faceting plan file.
