About
Explore evolution by creating life of your own. digiLife Education Edition is an interactive digital-organism simulator designed to make concepts from biology, evolution, ecology, and natural selection visible and experimentally accessible. Create an experiment, introduce populations into a virtual culture chamber, and watch an ecosystem develop. Organisms move, search for nutrients, grow, reproduce, compete, age, and die while inherited traits pass from one generation to the next. Mutations can change traits such as metabolism, growth, size, lifespan, environmental preferences, and reproductive success. Over generations, selection can transform a population as organisms encounter competition and changing environmental conditions. Organisms can also evolve specialized innovations. These include nutrient sensing, chemical communication, environmental sensing, defensive structures, repellents, toxins, injury avoidance, and bioluminescent communication. Innovations carry biological advantages and tradeoffs, allowing increasingly complex ecological relationships to emerge. Guided Simulator Build structured experiments with an approachable workflow designed for learning and observation. Sandbox Simulator Create custom populations and environments, adjust experimental conditions, and explore more complex evolutionary scenarios. Dynamic Environments Temperature, pH, illumination, nutrients, and spatial environmental variation can influence survival and reproduction. Organisms may evolve ways to perceive their surroundings and seek more favorable conditions. Evolution in Action digiLife models inheritance, mutation, reproduction, predation, competition, environmental stress, aging, and natural selection as interacting systems. There is no predetermined evolutionary destination—the populations you observe emerge from the conditions of the experiment. Built for Exploration An integrated Learn section and User Guide explain the simulator’s concepts, controls, biological systems, and terminology, making digiLife suitable for independent exploration as well as educational use. Create an ecosystem. Change the conditions. Watch generations pass. See what evolves.Read more

digiLife Education Edition is an interactive digital-organism simulator designed to make concepts from biology, evolution, ecology, and natural selection visible and experimentally accessible.
Guided Simulator
Build structured experiments with an approachable workflow designed for learning and observation.
Sandbox Simulator
Create custom populations and environments, adjust experimental conditions, and explore more complex evolutionary scenarios.
Dynamic Environments
Temperature, pH, illumination, nutrients, and spatial environmental variation can influence survival and reproduction. Organisms may evolve ways to perceive their surroundings and seek more favorable conditions.
Evolution in Action
digiLife models inheritance, mutation, reproduction, predation, competition, environmental stress, aging, and natural selection as interacting systems. There is no predetermined evolutionary destination—the populations you observe emerge from the conditions of the experiment.
Built for Exploration
An integrated Learn section and User Guide explain the simulator’s concepts, controls, biological systems, and terminology, making digiLife suitable for independent exploration as well as educational use.
Create an ecosystem. Change the conditions. Watch generations pass. See what evolves.
