About
Tell Spare Yard the quilt you want to make, and it tells you how much of each fabric to buy and how to cut it. Every amount includes the margin you chose and is rounded up to what your shop sells, so a miscut doesn't send you back to the shop for a fabric that's gone. The cutting list reads like a printed pattern: strips across the width of fabric first, then subcuts, then the leftover end of each strip, drawn so you can see it. WHAT TO BUY • One line per fabric: the amount to buy, what the cut needs and what your margin adds. The margin is one spare strip per fabric unless you change it, plus pre-wash shrinkage if you set it. • A counter card for the shop, with the amounts large enough for the clerk to read across the counter. • Usable width set per fabric, 40" unless you change it. The width check shows when a wider bolt changes the plan, for example 11 pieces per strip at 40" and 12 at 42". • The plan shows what it saved against the plain plan, one piece size per strip, and where the saving came from. Some quilts save nothing, and the app says so. • Inches and yards, or centimetres and metres, with your shop's steps and smallest cut. • Keep each fabric's name, maker and shop, read from a photo of the selvage if you like. Mark a fabric as the last of the bolt and you get a warning when its margin is thin. HOW TO CUT IT • Every cut is a full-width strip or a subcut of one, and directional prints are never turned. • A cutting line in pattern wording, such as "(28) 2½" x WOF strips, subcut into (84) 2½" x 10½" rectangles", with a picture of the strip wherever you cut from the remainder. • Half-square triangles 2, 4 or 8 at a time, quarter-square triangles, flying geese, strip sets, sashing, cornerstones, borders and binding. • Precuts: fat quarters, fat eighths, jelly roll strips, charm packs, mini charms and layer cakes. • Start from 18 blocks and a layout grid (nine-patch, churn dash, Ohio star, log cabin and more), type in your pattern's cutting list, or start from fabric you already have and see what it makes. FREE • Backing: how many widths, which way the seam runs, overhang for a longarmer or your own machine, and 108" wideback. • Binding, batting, and how much fabric a number of pieces takes. • Resize a block to sizes you can cut, to the nearest ⅛". • Your first full quilt plan, with every screen above and no piece limit. ONE PURCHASE One purchase unlocks unlimited plans, cutting mode and the printable cutting sheet. Cutting mode shows one strip at a time in large type, and your ticks are kept if you stop for the night. The cutting sheet prints one page per fabric, or saves as a PDF. It's shared with your family through Family Sharing. There is no subscription, no trial and no account. YOUR PLANS STAY ON YOUR DEVICE There's no sign-up. Plans are saved on your iPhone or iPad, and the app works without a connection. It sends anonymous counts of which features get used, nothing linked to you, and there are no ads and no tracking. Works on iPhone and iPad, including iPad in landscape on a stand in the sewing room.Read more
