About

Misakit predicts when and where a runner will arrive on a set course. The runner and the family waiting at home see the same predictions. WHEN THE SIGNAL IS GONE, THE PREDICTIONS CARRY ON Coverage drops out for hours at a time on a mountain course, so no app can keep sending a position. Misakit works from the reference times prepared for the course and the pace worked out from the positions that have arrived so far, and predicts where the runner is now and when they should reach the points ahead. The predictions keep moving even while nothing is getting through. RECORDED OUT OF COVERAGE, SENT WHEN THE SIGNAL RETURNS Taking a position does not need a signal. Open the app out of coverage and the position and time are kept on the device. The same goes for checkpoint reports. They survive closing the app and restarting the phone. Open the app again somewhere with a signal and everything that has built up is sent at once and appears on the viewing page. IT DOES NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY A position is sent only when the runner opens the app, and when they report passing a checkpoint. There is no continuous tracking and no sending in the background, so the battery lasts through a long day out. WHAT THE RUNNER SEES - Roughly where they are on the course - Predicted arrival at the checkpoints ahead - The checkpoints already passed, and what has reached the server (including anything still waiting) - Their pace with rest time taken out WHAT THE PEOPLE FOLLOWING SEE - The runner's position and predicted position on the course - The times checkpoints were passed - Predicted arrivals, to judge when to be at a meeting point - The runner's battery level The viewing page opens in a browser with no sign-in. Anyone who knows the URL for that event can see it. HOW IT WORKS 1. Enter the join code handed out by the event organiser 2. Choose a display name. It does not have to be your real name 3. After the start, a position is sent each time you open the app 4. Report each checkpoint from the app as you pass it PLEASE NOTE - Positions and checkpoint reports recorded out of coverage do not appear on the viewing page until the signal returns - The predictions are an estimate of where a runner gets to if they keep moving, worked out from the course's reference times and the positions so far. Rest ahead is not counted, so time spent resting puts the arrival back by that much - The positions sent and the display name are public on the event's viewing page.
