About

MaumivuCare is a bilingual (English/Kiswahili) mobile programme that teaches practical CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) coping skills to young people aged 15-24 living with Sickle Cell Disease. Developed as part of an academic research study, it puts a structured, self-paced pain self-management curriculum directly in your pocket. WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH MAUMIVUCARE Daily Pain Diary Log pain intensity, location, triggers, mood, sleep, and the coping strategy you used each day, and see your trends over time. Guided CBT Lessons Work through a 15-lesson curriculum covering pain education and coping skills, with a Learn / Watch / Practice / Reflect / Apply / Record / Progress structure for every module. Guided Relaxation Diaphragmatic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, mindful attention, and grounding exercises, with audio, video, and adjustable timers (2, 5, or 10 minutes). Thought Records A simple cognitive-restructuring tool to examine and reframe difficult thoughts about pain, saved so you can revisit and edit them anytime. Problem-Solving Tool An 8-step guided sequence to work through a real problem step by step, from identifying it to reviewing the result. Personal Coping Plan Build and keep a personal "when pain starts" plan, saved as a dated history you can update as your coping strategies evolve. Goals & Activity Pacing Set small daily goals and pacing plans that build gradually, without triggering a pain flare. Self-Care Education Supportive, non-prescriptive reminders about hydration, sleep, activity, and recognising symptoms that need clinical attention. Progress & Reports Weekly and final progress reports you can download as a PDF, including your CBT progress, pain trends, and programme engagement. Gentle Encouragement Streaks, skill levels, badges, and a de-identified leaderboard that encourage consistency without turning pain management into a game. Safety First A red-flag symptom check on every check-in, one-tap access to call support, and a direct escalation path if you report a concerning symptom. Reminders Optional daily reminders to check in and keep up with your programme. ABOUT THE RESEARCH MaumivuCare is being evaluated as part of ongoing doctoral research into digital self-management tools for adolescents and young adults with Sickle Cell Disease. Data is handled under approved research procedures — see our Privacy Policy for details. IMPORTANT MaumivuCare supports self-management and does not replace medical care. Always follow your clinician-approved treatment plan and seek medical help for concerning symptoms.Read more
