About
PDF Buddy does the PDF jobs that usually mean uploading a document to a website you have never heard of: merging, splitting, compressing, trimming, redacting, stamping. It does them all in one pass, on your own Mac, and it never changes the file you started with. Drop several files in and they become one document. Tick the tasks you want, save once, and get a new file back. TRIM MARGINS THAT REALLY CUT Finds the ink on each page and cuts the blank paper away from around it. The discarded margin is genuinely gone from the exported file, not merely hidden behind a box. COMPRESSION THAT KEEPS THE WORDS A scan and a page of text are not the same problem, so PDF Buddy doesn't treat them alike. It re-encodes the pictures inside a file and leaves text and line art untouched, so the document stays sharp and selectable — and it refuses to "compress" a text document into something larger. A live before-and-after readout tells you what you'll get before you commit. REDACTION THAT DESTROYS A black rectangle drawn over a PDF hides nothing: the text sits underneath it, selectable by anything that opens the file. PDF Buddy finds emails, social security numbers, phone numbers, card numbers, IP addresses and faces — on your Mac, using Apple's own on-device recognition — and burns the page so the words are gone. Add your own terms for names and case numbers. STAMPS THAT KNOW THEIR JOB Page numbers in four styles. Bates numbers that keep counting across every file you split out, which is the difference that matters in a production. Six-slot headers and footers with date, filename and page tokens. Text or image watermarks, tiled or anchored. MAKE A SCAN SEARCHABLE Reads the text on scanned pages and lays it into the file invisibly, so you can search and copy from it afterwards. Pages that already have text are skipped. SPLIT, OR BATCH One file, one file per page, every N pages, or custom ranges. Or one file per original — drop forty invoices, stamp them all, and get forty stamped invoices back, each keeping its own name. ALSO • Pages per sheet: 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16, with stamps counting sheets or pages • Interleave two one-sided scan passes back into reading order • Reorder, rotate and delete pages, with twenty steps of undo • Export to PNG, JPEG, plain text or CSV tables • Protect the copy with a password • Drop in images — a screenshot or a photo becomes a page SEE IT BEFORE YOU SAVE The Result tab renders a page through the very code that writes the file, so what you're looking at is what you'll get, redactions included. Worth checking before a document goes to anyone else. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Nothing you open is uploaded anywhere. There is no analytics, no telemetry and no account. Redaction and text recognition run on your Mac, and the file you dropped in is left exactly as it was.Read more
PDF Buddy does the PDF jobs that usually mean uploading a document to a website you have never heard of: merging, splitting, compressing, trimming, redacting, stamping. It does them all in one pass, on your own Mac, and it never changes the file you started with.
Drop several files in and they become one document. Tick the tasks you want, save once, and get a new file back.
TRIM MARGINS THAT REALLY CUT
Finds the ink on each page and cuts the blank paper away from around it. The discarded margin is genuinely gone from the exported file, not merely hidden behind a box.
COMPRESSION THAT KEEPS THE WORDS
A scan and a page of text are not the same problem, so PDF Buddy doesn't treat them alike. It re-encodes the pictures inside a file and leaves text and line art untouched, so the document stays sharp and selectable — and it refuses to "compress" a text document into something larger. A live before-and-after readout tells you what you'll get before you commit.
REDACTION THAT DESTROYS
A black rectangle drawn over a PDF hides nothing: the text sits underneath it, selectable by anything that opens the file. PDF Buddy finds emails, social security numbers, phone numbers, card numbers, IP addresses and faces — on your Mac, using Apple's own on-device recognition — and burns the page so the words are gone. Add your own terms for names and case numbers.
STAMPS THAT KNOW THEIR JOB
Page numbers in four styles. Bates numbers that keep counting across every file you split out, which is the difference that matters in a production. Six-slot headers and footers with date, filename and page tokens. Text or image watermarks, tiled or anchored.
MAKE A SCAN SEARCHABLE
Reads the text on scanned pages and lays it into the file invisibly, so you can search and copy from it afterwards. Pages that already have text are skipped.
SPLIT, OR BATCH
One file, one file per page, every N pages, or custom ranges. Or one file per original — drop forty invoices, stamp them all, and get forty stamped invoices back, each keeping its own name.
ALSO
• Pages per sheet: 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16, with stamps counting sheets or pages
• Interleave two one-sided scan passes back into reading order
• Reorder, rotate and delete pages, with twenty steps of undo
• Export to PNG, JPEG, plain text or CSV tables
• Protect the copy with a password
• Drop in images — a screenshot or a photo becomes a page
SEE IT BEFORE YOU SAVE
The Result tab renders a page through the very code that writes the file, so what you're looking at is what you'll get, redactions included. Worth checking before a document goes to anyone else.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Nothing you open is uploaded anywhere. There is no analytics, no telemetry and no account. Redaction and text recognition run on your Mac, and the file you dropped in is left exactly as it was.

See the result in the grid A new Result / Original switch above the page grid shows every page as it will be saved — trimmed, redacted, stamped and watermarked — so you can check the whole document before you export. Original shows the pages as they are. Fixed: in Pages view, the page on screen could differ from the one selected in the list, so turning on Pages per sheet sometimes showed a half-empty sheet. Pages view now opens on the page you selected.
