About
Neurature is an invite-only academic research app, part of a longitudinal psychology study run by the Center for Brain, Mind and Society. It presents questionnaires and brief "ecological momentary assessment" (EMA) surveys to enrolled participants. Access is by a one-time study code issued at enrollment. There are no passwords and no public sign-up. RESEARCH APPROVALS The study is approved by an independent institutional review board (IRB). Informed consent is completed at enrollment, outside the app, and covers the nature, purpose and duration of the research, procedures and risks, data handling and confidentiality, a contact point, and withdrawal. Enrollment uses two separate surveys: a consent form the participant signs under their own name, and a baseline survey keyed only to an anonymous study id. Name and study data are never held together, and the app receives only the study id. Copies of the IRB approval and consent form are available on request. All participants are 18 or older. HOW TO ACCESS FOR REVIEW On the launch screen, enter this study code: 507c1dca-55cc-496c-8990-1de476e0422c There is no username or password. This loads a demonstration protocol with a representative sample of the study's activities and all calendar gates opened, so everything is reachable in one session. In the live study these stages unlock across an academic year. WALKTHROUGH The home screen lists nine activities, which may be taken in any order. Any activity can be left by returning to Home. Welcome Message - short introduction. Trait, Personality, and Beliefs - standard questionnaire scales. End of Survey Message - closes that part of the study. Academic Experience and Progress - further questionnaires, a free-text field, and the two image-based questions used in the study (a ladder scale and overlapping-circle diagrams). EMA Sign-Up - where a participant opts in to the optional daily-survey phase. EMA Instructions - illustrated training panels, then short written practice prompts. EMA Information - summarises what the daily-survey phase involves. EMA - Period 1 (Morning) - a short daily check-in, mostly sliders. EMA - Period 1 (Evening) - the longer daily check-in. Its final question is the microphone feature: a spoken "think-aloud" task. The app requests microphone access at that point and for that purpose only. This is the only feature that uses the microphone, and participants consent to the recording at enrollment. The menu (top right) holds three reference documents: information about the daily surveys, mental health resources, and study information. DATA AND PRIVACY Responses are stored under a random study code. No name, email or phone number is collected in the app; identity is collected only on the signed consent form at enrollment, held separately from all study data. Data is held on encrypted managed cloud infrastructure in the United States. The microphone is used solely for the think-aloud recording. The app does not collect location, contacts, photos, or HealthKit data, and does not track users across other apps or websites.
