About
Is it clear to swim? ClearToSwim turns lightning detection into the one signal every pool deck already understands: a stoplight. Set your pool's location and ClearToSwim watches for lightning nearby, using NOAA's GOES weather satellites. A strike inside your evacuation radius turns the light red and starts the wait clock; every new strike restarts it. When the wait runs out, the light turns green again. No radar squinting, no group-chat debate, no one person stuck making the call. THE FREE APP - A red-and-green stoplight for one pool of your own, plus up to three more shared with you - The recognized aquatic default, built in: evacuate at 10 miles, reopen 30 minutes after the last strike - A live map of nearby strikes, color-aged so you can watch a storm pass - Closed and all-clear alerts to your phone, even with the app closed - Pool hours: always on, or sunrise to sunset, so nobody gets a 3am alert for an empty pool CLEARTOSWIM PRO - The amber lamp lights: yellow caution when lightning lands between your evacuation radius and your caution ring, with the pool still open, and a steady amber countdown when a closed pool is about to reopen - The caution ring on the map, the wider zone that caution watches - Your own evacuation radius, caution ring, and wait timer, per pool - More than one pool of your own, up to 10 monitored at once - Caution and reopening alerts on top of closed and open - Lightning strike notifications out to your caution ring, not just your evacuation radius - Custom pool hours, set separately for opening and closing, with either end able to follow the sun - Pool sharing: hand a pool to a sitter, neighbor, or family member, set up on their phone with their own alerts - No ads - Family Sharing: up to six people in your Apple Family get Pro through Apple WHERE IT WORKS The GOES satellites sit over the Americas and the Pacific, so that is where ClearToSwim reads lightning: North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the wider Pacific, out to about 52 degrees north and south. Most of Alaska sits past that edge, as do Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. You can still add a pool anywhere, and the app labels it plainly when no lightning feed reaches it rather than showing a calm light it cannot stand behind. HONEST BY DESIGN ClearToSwim is an informational aid, not a safety guarantee. Always follow official warnings. If you see lightning or hear thunder, get out of the water and take shelter in a substantial building or a hard-topped vehicle. Wait until 30 minutes after the last thunder before returning to the water. Lightning data comes from satellites and takes time to detect and deliver, and no system catches every strike. A person onsite always makes the final call. NOAA does not endorse ClearToSwim. Auto-renewing subscription: ClearToSwim Pro, $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year in the United States. Prices elsewhere are Apple's local equivalents and are shown before you buy. Pro adds the amber lamp and the caution ring, your own radius and wait timers, custom pool hours, caution and reopening alerts, lightning notifications out to your caution ring, more than one pool of your own, pool sharing, and no ads. ClearToSwim monitors up to 10 of your pools at a time. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and is managed in your Apple Account settings. This update fixes problems found since launch. - Pools back up to your account again, so they come back when you sign in on another phone, and invite codes can be created again. - A phone on this version no longer removes pools that another phone on the same account added. - A pool you just added or moved now waits to read open until lightning near it has been watched for as long as its wait. - After a long stretch in the background, the app may watch again for as long as the wait before it shows open, instead of keeping the open it showed before. - Share lists only invite codes that still wo…
