Meldspire

Drop a piece. Its twin is waiting. Two Sparks meld into an Ember, the Ember lands on another Ember, and suddenly the whole column is climbing. That is Meldspire: a merge puzzle with a spire for a board and a floor that will not sit still. Pieces arrive one at a time. Tap a column, or slide across and let go. Equal pieces stacked in a column meld upward into the next rank. Three in a row meld sideways. A meld that lands on another twin fires again, and every pass of a chain multiplies the points. Set up a column that steps down toward the top, drop the lowest rank on it, and feel the ripple run all the way to the floor. That is the chain meld, and it never gets old. The catch is pressure. Every few drops a stone row shoves the spire up. Stones never meld, but a meld right beside one cracks it loose for a bonus. Let a stone row shove a column past the ceiling and the run is over. The gaps get shorter the longer you last. Twelve ranks run from Spark up to Crown, and two Crowns do not grow at all. They burst, clear their slots, and empty the pressure gauge. You can climb four ways. The endless spire deals fresh every run. Today's spire deals one board for the whole day, seeded from the date, so the same pieces arrive in the same order for everyone who plays it. The ladder has ten fixed deals with target scores: one star at the target, two at one and a half times it, three at double. A star opens the next rung. Three practice spires each teach one trick with a prepared board and a fixed opening hand. Not sure a chain will fire?
