About
Symbolsmith turns any SVG into a custom symbol template for the SF Symbols app and Xcode. Your icon is sized to Apple's cap-height grid, generated across all nine weights, and previewed right next to real text, so it sits in your interface like a system symbol. Making a custom symbol by hand means exporting a blank template, redrawing your icon at the right size, and repeating it for every weight. Symbolsmith does that work for you, on Mac, iPhone and iPad. HOW IT WORKS 1. Bring in your icons: drag in SVG files or whole folders, paste SVG code, or import files. 2. Tune them: set the size, line width, fills and rendering mode in the inspector. 3. Check the fit: compare weights side by side, inline with text, or over a system symbol. 4. Export a template for the SF Symbols app, a symbol set for your asset catalog, or a whole asset catalog at once. New to custom symbols? Open the example project from the welcome screens. Its nine symbols each show a feature, from weights and text matching to cutouts and masters. EVERY WEIGHT • All nine weights, Ultralight to Black, from a single drawing • Weight ramps tuned to match system symbols • Or attach your own Ultralight and Black drawings and let Symbolsmith interpolate the rest • Export a static template, or a variable template with three masters A PREVIEW YOU CAN TRUST • Weights: three weights side by side on one baseline • Text: your icon inline with the words you type, cap height matched • Onionskin: your icon over any of thousands of system symbols • Cap-height, baseline and margin guides, on a light or dark background FULL CONTROL • Monochrome, hierarchical, palette, multicolor and variable color, with a role for each layer • Uniform line width, outlined fills, and inside, center or outside alignment • Remove backgrounds, or cut lighter shapes out of a darker one • Flip, rotate and nudge ORGANIZED AND SYNCED • A library that syncs across your devices with iCloud • Projects, tags, search and sorting, with drag and drop between projects • Export a whole project as templates or an asset catalog in one go • Save and share projects as a single file MADE FOR DEVELOPERS • Drag a symbol straight into Xcode or Finder, or open it in the SF Symbols app on Mac • Clear warnings with one-click fixes, for things like gradients, masks and light-on-dark artwork • Full undo, and keyboard shortcuts for importing, pasting and exporting on Mac • No account, no subscription and no tracking. Your files stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. One purchase includes Symbolsmith for Mac, iPhone and iPad.
