About

Kimmy gives a voice to people who cannot speak and have very limited movement — after a stroke, brain injury, or aneurysm, or living with ALS, aphasia, or locked-in syndrome. Instead of requiring precise touch or eye-pointing, Kimmy uses scanning: the screen highlights one option at a time, and the user confirms the highlighted option with the single movement they can do reliably — a sustained blink, a head turn, a tap anywhere on the large Select bar, or an external Bluetooth switch. The iPad or iPhone then speaks the selection aloud. THREE WAYS TO COMMUNICATE - Yes / No — two large, high-contrast zones for answering questions. Often the first connection a family gets back. - Quick phrases — essential needs spoken in one selection: "I'm in pain", "I need the nurse", "I'm thirsty", "I love you". Fully editable, so you can add names and words that matter to your family. - Letter board — spell anything with row-column scanning and word prediction, then have the whole sentence spoken aloud. MADE FOR REAL RECOVERY - Blink and head-turn detection runs on-device using the front camera — no extra hardware needed. - A calibration screen shows live signal readouts, so caregivers can tune sensitivity and hold time until deliberate movements register reliably and involuntary ones don't. - Scan speed, pause after selection, voice, and speech rate are all adjustable. Slow and reliable beats fast and frustrating, especially early in recovery. - Settings sit behind a press-and-hold so the patient can't open them by accident. - Undo, back, and start-over targets on every board — mis-selections are inevitable, and recovery from them should be easy. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Kimmy collects no data at all. The camera is used only for on-device face tracking while a face-gesture mode is active; nothing is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted. The app works fully offline. A NOTE FOR FAMILIES Kimmy is designed to complement, not replace, assessment by a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who specialises in AAC. An SLP can determine which movement is most reliable for your loved one — Kimmy then lets you tune the app to match what they find. Built by a developer for his own family. We hope it helps yours too.Read more
