About
Denglish is a speaking coach you talk to out loud. No typing and no multiple choice - you say it, the AI coach hears you, and it answers in German. It works in both directions. If you speak English, you practise German. If you speak German, you practise English. Every screen, button and explanation switches to your own language, so anything new is explained in the language you already think in. WAYS TO PRACTISE Live conversation - a spoken conversation in real time. The coach replies almost immediately and your hands stay free. A session runs up to ten minutes. Just chat - the classic record-and-reply mode. Pick a topic (your day, small talk, travel) or let the coach surprise you, and speak a turn at a time. Lessons - short hands-free spoken lessons of three, five or ten minutes. The coach asks, listens, and moves on once you have answered. You can replay a line, ask for a translation, or skip. Role-plays - rehearse a cafe, a restaurant, asking for directions, travel, shopping or a day at work. The other person stays in character and reacts to what you actually said. You can also describe your own situation and practise that. Word Trainer - 26 German vocabulary decks from A1 to A2. You see the word in English and say it in German; for nouns the article is part of the answer, so der, die and das are marked right or wrong. Cards you miss come back sooner, with spaced repetition. Translator - speak in either language and hear it in the other. Save anything useful as a phrase card. CORRECTIONS THAT DO NOT SCOLD When the coach spots a mistake it shows what you said, a better version, and a one-line reason in your own language. After a chat you get a review: what went well, the mistakes worth fixing, and what to practise next. YOUR LEVEL A short spoken placement puts you at A0, A1, A2 or B1. It is an AI estimate used to set the difficulty of your practice, not an official CEFR certificate, and you can retake it at any time. The app keeps track of your weak spots, your daily goal, your streak and the minutes you have spoken. WHAT DENGLISH IS NOT It is not a complete course or a graded curriculum, and it is not a marketplace for human tutors. It teaches two languages: German for English speakers, and English for German speakers. YOUR COACH IS AN AI The coach is an AI system, not a person, and its voice is computer-generated. To coach you, the app sends your recordings, transcripts and typed messages to OpenAI and Microsoft Azure OpenAI. You agree to that before you start, and you can withdraw the permission in Profile. AI can get things wrong, so treat its corrections as practice rather than as certified teaching. BEFORE YOU START Denglish needs an account and a microphone. Headphones work well, and a lesson keeps playing with the screen off. Denglish includes a one-time free taster; Plus and Pro subscriptions add live-voice minutes each month, and prices and terms are shown in the app before you buy.
