About
Veiscend is a ranking app that tours the world's volcanic eruptions in order of erupted volume, from smallest to largest. The baseline is Mt. Fuji's Hōei eruption (1707). Taking its erupted volume of about 1.7 km³ as "1," the app shows how many times larger each eruption is. ■ Plays automatically, like a ranking video Press play and the map flies to the next volcano. As it approaches, the eruption begins: circles marking the reach of pyroclastic flows and ashfall expand, and the multiple of Mt. Fuji counts up. From Mt. Ontake's 2014 eruption through Sakurajima, Pinatubo, and Tambora to some of the largest eruptions in Earth's history, 60 eruptions are presented in order. ■ Eruptions included ・Japan (23): Ontake, Unzen, Asama, Fuji, Sakurajima, Towada, Hokkaido-Komagatake, giant caldera eruptions such as Kikai, Aira, and Aso, and more ・Rest of the world (37): Vesuvius, Krakatoa, St. Helens, Pinatubo, Tambora, Santorini, Yellowstone, Toba, and more ■ Main features ・Explanations of each eruption's events, damage, and stories ・VEI (Volcanic Explosivity Index) and erupted volume ・Map circles showing the reach of pyroclastic flows and ashfall ・Overlay Mt. Fuji's 1707 ashfall area for comparison ・Compare erupted volumes as cubes ・Two original background music tracks that switch to an intense one as eruptions grow larger ・Jump to any eruption from the full ranking list ・Adjustable playback speed (0.5×–2×) ・Supports iPhone and iPad, available in 9 languages ■ Pricing The app is free, with no ads. For those who would like to support development, three optional tips are available. Tips do not unlock any features. * Figures for erupted volume, dates, damage, and so on are approximate, based on various sources. Some values differ greatly between sources.Read more
