Ovel

Ovel is the dedicated workbench for cloisonne enamel artists. Whether you are setting your first wire or firing a complex multi-colour piece, Ovel replaces handwritten firing cards and mental arithmetic with a precise, interactive design stage and an automated firing ladder — all offline, with no account required. Design your piece on a to-scale digital plaque. Tap to place cloison wires, flood cells with colour, and let Ovel calculate powder quantities, coat counts, and firing temperatures for every cell. Load a photo of your pencil cartoon as a trace underlay to guide wire placement. Seven plaque forms are included — oval, round, shield, drop, tile, cushion, and domed — across copper, fine silver, fine gold, and gilding metal. Ovel builds your complete firing schedule automatically, ordered hardest enamel to softest. Each fire step shows temperature, duration, active cells, enamels in use, and a technique note. A built-in counter-balance calculator checks that your front and back enamel masses stay within tolerance and flags the exact fault — crazing, spalling, lifted wire, and more — before you fire. When your plan is ready, export a Firing Card to Photos to keep by your kiln. The app includes a curated palette of 18 enamels with firing temperatures, expansion coefficients, packing tips, and fault watch notes; a Fault Atlas covering 10 enamel faults with causes, prevention checklists, and rescue procedures; and a Kit reference for the 9 essential tools. Calibrate displayed temperatures to your own kiln with a personal offset. Ovel works entirely offline — no subscription, no cloud, no account.
