About

Word lists do not fail because they are hard. They fail because you have to remember to open something. Vocabdrift puts the word where you already look forty times a day and lets the rest happen by itself. Turn on the Lock Screen widget once. From then on a word and a short definition rotate in on their own, on a schedule you set, with nothing to open and no feed to scroll. WHAT IS IN IT - 1,383 words, every one with a plain definition and its part of speech - Pronunciation for 1,165 of them and an example sentence for 535 - Sourced from WordNet 3.0 and Wiktionary, with the licences and attribution shown in the app ON YOUR LOCK SCREEN - A widget shows the current word and its definition. Tap it to open that word in full - Choose how often it changes: every 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours - Optional notifications as a second way to catch a new word BECAUSE GLANCING IS NOT THE SAME AS KNOWING Seeing a word again teaches you to recognise it. Being asked to produce it is what makes it stick. The in-app quiz is multiple choice drawn from words the widget has actually shown you, and words you have missed come back more often than words you have not. AT YOUR OWN PACE Browse every word you have seen, save the ones you want to keep, and quiz yourself on just those. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything runs on the device. There is no account, the app makes no network requests, and nothing about which words you see leaves your phone.Read more
