Magmafix Seko

Magmafix Seko is a physics-accurate volcanic eruption simulator built for volcanology students, researchers, and observatory professionals. Configure a magma system from the chamber to the atmosphere and watch the eruption physics unfold in seconds. In the Melt tab, define your magma chemistry by entering major-oxide compositions, dissolved volatiles, temperature, and crystal fraction. The app classifies your rock type on a Total Alkali-Silica diagram and computes viscosity live as you adjust parameters. Start from built-in archetypes such as basalt or rhyolite, and attach a photo of a hand sample to anchor your work to a real-world specimen. The Conduit tab is the heart of Magmafix Seko. Set up your volcanic system — chamber depth, conduit geometry, edifice shape, vent elevation, crater state, and atmospheric conditions — then run the model. The eruption solver advances through five stages: magma ascent, fragmentation, mass-eruption-rate, plume rise, and tephra dispersal. Results include column height, VEI, pyroclastic density current runout, lava flow runout for effusive styles, and dispersal isopach distances. Eight eruption styles are resolved, from Plinian to Strombolian to Effusive, and a sensitivity driver identifies which single input sits closest to flipping the style. Train your forecasting skills in the Watch tab, where you take the role of a volcano observatory analyst. Monitor synthetic ground deformation, seismicity, gas flux, and thermal data over a 60-day episode, set alert levels, and file probabilistic eruption forecasts. At episode end, a full debrief scores your performance using the Brier skill score and cost-loss accounting. Choose from three difficulty levels — Clear, Standard, or Noisy — to match your experience. The Record tab archives every simulation run for side-by-side comparison and parameter sweeps that map style-transition thresholds across any input.
