About
TrainsPh tells you what a Metro Manila train ride actually costs, and it does it without a signal. FARES YOU CAN CHECK Every fare in this app was read off the operator's own published matrix - LRMC's for LRT-1, LRTA's for LRT-2, and the DOTr's distance bands for MRT-3 - and each line shows the date its fares took effect. Pick two stations and you get the price for a Single Journey Ticket or a stored-value beep card, with the student, senior citizen and PWD discount applied if you ask for it. Trips that cross lines are priced honestly. The interchange is outside the fare gates, so the app says it is two tickets and shows both. Fares change, and most apps do not notice. This one carries the date so you can tell. If a fare here does not match what the machine charged, the About screen gives you a one-tap email template to tell us. WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL Stations, fares, travel times and service hours are built into the app. It answers on a platform with no bars, underground, or with mobile data switched off. Corrections arrive quietly in the background when there is a connection. A MAP OF WHERE THE TRAINS ACTUALLY ARE All three lines drawn from real coordinates, not a schematic, with the interchanges marked. Tap two stations to price the trip, or tap the locate button to put yourself on it. A station's sheet shows its last train today, what is around it, and a link that opens it in Google Maps. SAVED TRIPS Save the commute you price every day and it is one tap away, on the Fares tab and in the home-screen widget. NEAREST STATION Ranks all 51 stations by how far they are from you. Your location is read on your phone, compared against station coordinates already in the app, and discarded. This feature never uploads it. LIVE TRAIN POSITIONS, IF YOU CHOOSE Off by default. Switch it on and, while you are on a train, the app shares your position so riders waiting at stations ahead can see the train coming. It keeps working with your phone in your pocket, iOS shows its location indicator the whole time, it publishes nothing while you walk or wait, and it deletes what you shared the moment you switch it off. Nothing is attached to a name; there is no account. HOW BUSY IT IS Each station shows an expected crowd level for the day and hour, and anyone can update it with one tap - Walang pila, Mahaba, or Sobrang siksik. Reports are anonymous, carry no text or photographs, and are deleted after 90 days. SERVICE ALERTS, ON YOUR HOME SCREEN Suspensions and major disruptions, each with the date it was posted and a link to the source, so you can tell a live notice from an old one. A home-screen widget shows the most serious current advisory and your first saved trip. You can turn notifications on for these, and nothing else is ever sent. IN FILIPINO, IN LIGHT OR DARK The whole app is in English and Filipino. Pick one in Settings or follow your phone, and do the same for dark or light appearance, distance units and your default ticket type. WHAT THIS APP NO LONGER DOES The 2017 version showed CCTV from MRT-3 platforms. That government feed no longer exists and no replacement is available, so the feature is gone rather than left broken. PNR's Metro Manila commuter service has been suspended since March 2024 for North-South Commuter Railway construction, with no confirmed restart date. The app says so, instead of quoting fares for trains that are not running. NO ADS, NO ACCOUNT There is no sign-up and no advertising. The app carries no ad SDK and does not read your advertising identifier. It does count which screens you open and which fares you look up, so there is some idea of which parts get used, and it tells you so the first time it opens. Those counts carry no location and nothing you type. Switch it off in Settings or in About and sources and it stops straight away. Covers LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3. Independent, and not operated by the DOTr, the LRTA, the MRTA or PNR.Read more
