About

Freelance money arrives without anything taken out of it. Set Aside for Tax tells you how much of each payment is not really yours, before you spend it. The number at the top is your set-aside rate: self-employment tax, federal income tax and your state's rate combined into one percentage, worked out from the profit you expect this year. On sixty thousand dollars of profit as a single filer in a five percent state, it is 26.6 percent. Beside it sits a jar that fills as payments come in, showing how much of this year's estimated tax is already covered by what you have been paid, with the running totals next to it: received, put aside, and the year's tax. Log a payment by tapping the amount and keying it in on the app's own keypad. The button tells you the exact sum to move to your tax account, and the payment drops into a ruled ledger with its tax share printed underneath in gold. Further down, the four estimated payment dates sit on a Q1 to Q4 track, with the next one due highlighted. Enter last year's total tax and the app works out the safe harbor: the quarterly amount that avoids any underpayment penalty however this year turns out, 110 percent of last year above $150,000 of AGI. It compares that with this year's estimate and uses the smaller one for the schedule. The rate, the jar, the keypad and the ledger are free. The quarterly amounts and the safe harbor figure are unlocked with a single one-time purchase. No subscription. Figures are for US federal tax year 2026, using the published brackets, standard deduction and self-employment tax rules. The qualified business income deduction and credits are left out, so it errs towards setting aside a little more. It is not tax advice. Everything you enter stays on your phone.Read more
