Decoder Ring: Plain English

Decoder Ring turns confusing text into plain, everyday language you can actually read: a text message, an email, a letter, a notice, a form, a contract, or a wall of jargon. Type or paste the text, scan a photo of it, point the camera at a page and watch it highlight the words as you move, or open a file: a PDF, a Word or PowerPoint document, a web page, or plain or rich text. Share text or a screenshot from any app into the Decoder Ring extension, and decode it without leaving what you were doing. Ask Siri to open Decoder Ring and decode, or send text to it from a photo. Either way, you get back one card: what it means, point by point, why it was probably written, what is worth knowing before you respond, and the words worth knowing, translated into plain English. Keep any card with Copy, Save as text, or Save as PDF, from the app or from the share extension. The camera can also translate what it sees, in place, into the language you choose in Settings, so a letter in a language you cannot read comes back as a card you can. WRITTEN PRIVATELY Decoder Ring's cards are written by Apple's on-device AI. Nothing you decode is sent to a third-party AI service. Photos, camera frames, and documents are read on the device, and no image is kept. On devices that support it, Decoder Ring can also use Apple's Private Cloud Compute, and never anything else. The only thing that ever leaves your device is feedback you choose to send: an optional, anonymous, helpful-or-not-helpful vote, and any comment you type. WHAT DECODER RING IS FOR - A lease clause before you sign it - A court notice or a jury summons - A terms-of-service page or a contract clause - An insurance policy or a denial letter - A bank or credit card notice - A utility bill that does not add up - A tax letter - A school or HOA notice - An email full of jargon or corporate-speak - An HR or benefits email - A warranty or a parking ticket - A message from a landlord or employer whose tone is unclear WHAT DECODER RING IS NOT Decoder Ring is for education only. Its cards are written by AI from the text you give it and may be imperfect. Decoder Ring explains what something says and means. It never tells you what to reply, sign, pay, or do. Only you can decide that, and for a legal, financial, tax, or medical document, only the right professional can help you decide it. Requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on. Works on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 or later, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and any iPad with M1 or later.
