Snug: Slide Puzzle

About
Flick a dog. It slides across the board and stops when it hits something. That is the whole game. No timer, no move limit, no way to lose. You cannot move one square at a time. You can only choose what to stop against — the edge of the board, a rock, another dog. Work with that until no two of the four share a row or a column. When the last one settles, they all hop once and wink at you. One puzzle done. Undo as often as you like, and pick up exactly where you left off. YOU CANNOT GET STUCK Every board is solved by the app before it is dealt to you. There are no dead ends and nothing impossible: if it is on your screen, it comes out. When it says Par 8, that board really can be done in eight moves — the app solved it and counted. One puzzle in every five is a hard one. See if you can match par. FIVE PUZZLES MAKE A STAGE One finishes and the next appears. Short enough for a single stop on the train, long enough to lose an evening in. IT GETS HARDER SO SLOWLY YOU WILL NOT NOTICE Past stage 100 the hard puzzle gains a fifth dog. Past 200 the board widens to six by six. Past 400 it splits into blocks, and no two dogs may share one. One day you are solving boards that would have stopped you a month ago. A STAMP FOR EVERY DAY YOU PLAY One of a hundred World Heritage sites, each with a short true note about it. No duplicates and no blanks — two people who play the same amount collect the same amount. Finish the hundred and a second hundred begins: the stars, from our own Moon to galaxies millions of light years away. Every tenth stage sends a dog wearing a crown. Meet enough of them and a rarer stamp arrives. AN ANIMAL AT THE END OF EVERY STAGE A goldfish does not forget in three seconds. An ostrich does not bury its head. 102 of them, all true — you will come away knowing a few things. QUIET BY DESIGN No account. No sign-up. No notifications. Nothing to set up, nothing to keep up with. The right size for the five minutes before you sleep, or any gap in the day.Read more

The animal notes have grown from 102 to 200. There are plenty you will not have heard. The move count on the play screen now shows the moves for the puzzle in front of you. It used to be the total for all five, so it could not be compared with the par beside it. The animal note at the end of a stage is now left-aligned. Centred text moves the start of every line, which makes it harder to read. When the dogs line up, they now hop first and wink after. Both happened at once before, and neither was easy to see.
