About

Jug Bug Explorer turns a walk through a garden, park or woodland into a scientific collection game. Point your camera at an insect, let the on-device scanner read the photograph and propose a species, then pin your find into a personal collection drawer that starts black and fills in, silhouette by silhouette. No account, no sign-up, no email. An anonymous explorer identity is created on first launch and every screen is available immediately. IDENTIFY WHAT YOU FIND • On-device trait inference reduces each photo to five measurable features — hue, saturation, brightness, edge density and body elongation — and scores them against every catalogue species • Ranked candidate list with a clear confidence percentage and tier: Low, Possible, Strong, Conclusive • Smart Scan Coach names exactly what went wrong with a weak photo: too dark, blurred, subject too small, busy background, blown out or unclear outline • Compare & Confirm puts two look-alike species side by side and asks up to three yes-or-no field questions • Multi-Angle sessions collect dorsal, lateral, head and free shots; three agreeing angles at 75% or higher earn a Verified Discovery A CURATED FIELD CATALOGUE • 36 species across 12 families, each with scientific name, plain-language description, rarity grade and look-alike species • Discovery DNA trait sets: coloration, body shape, wings, antennae, size class and markings • Rare and mythic species are locked behind a four-step hint chain that reveals region, natural zone, related species and the concrete search target as your family knowledge deepens BUILD A PERSONAL NATURAL HISTORY • Field Journal of every observation with photographs, region, zone, date, habitat note and notes, searchable and filterable • Collection grid showing completion percentage, family sections and rarity filters • World Map of 12 biogeographic regions with 48 natural zones, each rising from Unexplored to Complete • Nature Routes with target species and walking briefs for every region • Personal Biodiversity Profile: species and families found, verified discoveries, rare finds, territory coverage, activity by hour and month, scanning quality and rarity mix • Explorer XP, 20 levels, 14 badges and a daily streak • CSV export of every observation DAILY DISCOVERY • One species, one fact and one field task per calendar day, identical for every explorer worldwide • Community counts show how many explorers have found each species, turning rarity into a living figure • Optional daily reminder notification at a time you choose FIELD ID QUIZ • Twelve questions per round, twelve seconds each, drawn from the species you have collected plus catalogue entries you have not • Questions on families, traits, natural zones and closest relatives, with plausible distractors from the same family • Four XP per correct answer, with best score and accuracy tracked over time WORKS WITHOUT A CONNECTION • The catalogue ships inside the app and all reads are served from cache first • Scanning, identification, collecting, journaling, statistics, badges, streaks and the quiz all work with no network • Observations are queued and synced later; offline you only lose community counts, the board and fresh daily content PRIVACY • Photographs and notes never leave your device • Only an anonymous identifier, your chosen display name, species identifiers, region names, XP and quiz scores are ever uploaded • Sharing can be switched off entirely while community counts remain readable Available in English, Spanish and Catalan, in a single dark appearance built for field use.Read more
