About

SunScout shows you where the sun will be before you get there. Drop a pin anywhere on the map, drag one slider across the day, and the whole day's light is drawn over the ground: the sun's path, the sunrise and sunset directions, golden hour, blue hour, and a live countdown to the next one. Most sun apps ask you to learn them first. SunScout opens on the map with today's light already drawn. ONE MAP, ONE SLIDER The map is the app. Your spot is a pin, and the sun's path is a gold arc over it with a tick for every hour. Two rays from the pin point at sunrise and sunset. Drag the slider and the sun ray swings live, with the sun's height and compass bearing in degrees in a chip above the pin. Switch to satellite view and check what sits in that line: a ridge, a tower, a tree. DRAG THE TIME The slider runs from 00:00 to 24:00 in the spot's own local time. Chips snap you straight to blue hour, golden hour, sunrise, solar noon and sunset, morning and evening. EVERY LIGHT WINDOW, WITH A COUNTDOWN Under the map sits a plain list with big, readable times: morning blue hour, morning golden hour, sunrise, solar noon, evening golden hour, sunset, evening blue hour. Tap a row and the slider jumps there. Golden hour is the sun between 6 degrees above and 4 degrees below the horizon; blue hour is 4 to 6 degrees below. Whenever you are looking at today, a live countdown runs to the next event. ALSO ON THE SHEET - Day length, and the minutes and seconds gained or lost since yesterday - Moon phase, with the percentage lit, so you know how dark the sky will be after blue hour - In the far north or south it says plainly when the sun never sets or never rises, rather than inventing a time ANY SPOT ON EARTH, ANY DATE Use your current location, search for a place, park or city, or touch and hold anywhere on the map. Times are shown in the spot's own time zone, so you can plan a dawn in Jaipur from a desk in Manchester and read the right hours. Step the date by a day with the arrows, or jump to any date on the calendar. SAVED SPOTS Name a spot and keep it. Switch between saved spots from one list. SHARE CARD One tap renders a clean card with the spot, the date, every event time, day length and a mini diagram of the sun's day. Send it to the people you are shooting with, or keep it in Photos. FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS AND ANYONE WHO PLANS AROUND THE SUN Sunrise and sunset shoots, landscape and architecture, weddings, film crews scouting a location, or working out when the sun reaches a garden, balcony or window. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO There is no camera or augmented reality view in 1.0, and no weather. SunScout tells you where the sun will be; whether a cloud is in front of it is a question for the sky. ACCURATE, ON YOUR PHONE Sun positions come from the NOAA solar position algorithm, corrected for refraction, and sunrise and sunset times are checked against published tables. All of it is computed on the device, not on a server. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No analytics. No tracking. Location is asked for only when you tap the locate button, and the app works fully without it. Your saved spots stay on your iPhone. The map itself, place search and time zone lookup come from Apple Maps, as in any map app. FREE, WITH ONE HONEST UPGRADE The free version is the whole app for today and seven days either side, with one saved spot. It is not a trial and nothing expires. SunScout Full is a single purchase that opens every date from 1900 to 2100 and unlimited saved spots. No subscription, no renewal, no account to sign in to. Buy it once and it stays yours. SunScout needs an iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Times are shown in a 12-hour or 24-hour clock, your choice. A dark interface that does not blind you at five in the morning.Read more
