About
Birdpass – spot, learn and keep a record A single sighting can be the start of a new hobby. Birdpass turns every nature walk into a small adventure: look for birds, learn to recognise them and build your own collection of sightings. Made for beginners and experienced birders alike. It currently covers the birds of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and the catalogue keeps growing. Why Birdpass? The species information is compiled from reliable sources (including FinBIF and Wikipedia) and updated regularly. The app is developed continuously based on users' feedback. FIND AND IDENTIFY BIRDS Search for birds by name or by field marks – colour, size, family, order, season or habitat help you narrow the search. Not sure what you saw? Take a photo or record its song, and Birdpass suggests the most likely species based on your location and the season. Every species has its own page with photos, a description, diet, behaviour and identification tips. You can also listen to its voice – song, call, flight call or, say, a woodpecker's drumming – and learn to recognise a bird before you even see it. We don't store your photos or recordings anywhere. They are processed only while identifying and are not kept afterwards. LOG YOUR SIGHTINGS IN YOUR PASS Add the bird you saw to your pass in a few taps: choose the species, mark the spot on the map (or use your current location), say how many birds you saw, whether it was a male or a female and whether you saw or heard it, and write your own notes. All your sightings are saved in your personal pass, which you can browse on the map or in a monthly calendar. You can easily see where and when you found each species. FOLLOW YOUR PROGRESS Statistics show your species, your total number of sightings and your personal records at a glance, broken down by family and order if you like. New species, whole bird groups and days in the field unlock achievements, so there's always a next goal, even on a quieter day. MAKE THE APP YOUR OWN Share your public profile with other birders if you want to show your statistics and sightings. You decide whether the locations of your sightings appear on the public page. FREE AND PLUS Birdpass is free to use: species information and search are always unlimited. For free you can log 15 species and use photo and sound identification 25 times a month. Birdpass Plus (monthly or yearly subscription) removes these limits entirely: unlimited species and unlimited photo and sound identification. A Plus subscription also supports the app's further development. SAFE AND EASY Sign in with your Google or Apple account, and your sightings, settings and progress are kept safe and move with you from one device to another. No separate password to remember, and no new account to create just for Birdpass. Great with children too: a simple interface, clear species pictures and achievements make birding fun for the youngest explorers. Just as well suited to schools and nature clubs.
