About

WordsOS is a word processor for Mac, iPad and iPhone that opens and saves real Word documents — and keeps them on your device. REAL .DOCX, NOT AN APPROXIMATION Most apps that read .docx rebuild your document out of the parts they understand and quietly drop the rest. WordsOS keeps all of it. Anything it does not yet model — tracked changes, comments, footnotes, equations, charts, embedded objects — is carried through your edit and written back exactly as it arrived. Measured rather than claimed: across our own corpus, 50 of 50 real documents open, save and reopen with no semantic differences, and Word opens the result with no repair prompt. Opens and saves .docx, .dotx, .docm and .dotm. Plain text too — and it tells you plainly what formatting that costs. NOTHING LEAVES YOUR DEVICE No account. No sign-in. No sync. No analytics. The Mac version does not even ask for the network entitlement, so no document can cause a network request merely by being opened. Your writing is a file on your disk and nowhere else. EVERY DOCUMENT IS TREATED AS HOSTILE A document someone emailed you is untrusted data, and WordsOS was built that way from the first line. Macros are preserved but never run. The XML reader has no DTD or entity support at all, so the classic XXE and billion-laughs attacks cannot even be expressed. Archive bombs, path traversal and oversized images are refused before a byte is allocated. WRITING • Paragraph and character styles, with a quick-style gallery • Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, superscript, subscript • Fonts, sizes, text colour and highlight • Alignment, indentation, line spacing, bullets and numbered lists • Format painter, find and replace, hyperlinks, images, page breaks • Twelve templates: Blank, Letter, Report, Meeting notes, CV, Cover letter, Invoice, Project plan, Agenda, Newsletter, Essay, Checklist • Heading navigator, live word, character and paragraph counts • One undo stack across typing and formatting alike REAL PAGES Your text is laid out on sheets, not in an endless column. You see where each page ends, and the page number in the status bar is the page you are looking at. Text wraps in the page's own 6.5-inch column — the column that prints — rather than in whatever the window happens to be wide. Working at night? Set the page to White, Sepia or Dark. It is a viewing preference, never written into your file, so what you send is exactly what you wrote. ONE APP FOR MAC, IPAD AND IPHONE A native build for each, not a phone app stretched to fit. The Mac has a menu bar, printing, PDF export and a zoomable page; iPad and iPhone have the same editor with touch-sized controls and the whole page fitted to the screen. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IS NOT HERE YET Tables, headers and footers, footnotes, comments and tracked changes are read from your document and written back untouched, but cannot yet be edited on screen. There is no table of contents, mail merge, or collaboration. If your work depends on those, this release is not yet for you — and if it does not, nothing you open in the meantime will be damaged. WordsOS is an independent word processor. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft Corporation.Read more
