About
Balvim is the drying log every woodturner needs. Rough-turn a green bowl, register the blank, and let Balvim take the guesswork out of knowing when it is ready to finish. Instead of relying on the old one-year-per-inch rule of thumb, Balvim fits an exponential decay curve to your actual weight readings and tells you precisely when each blank has plateaued and is safe to remount on the lathe. Getting started is simple. Register each blank with its species, wall thickness, and first green weight. Then weigh it periodically — Balvim keeps a ranked queue so you always know which blank is most overdue — and enter the reading on a large numeric pad. After three weigh-ins, the app models the drying curve, estimates remaining moisture content, and projects a ready date based on your own results, not a generic rule. Every blank has its own detail view: a scrub-able decay curve with a plateau band, a weekly loss-rate chart, a photo timeline, and a live moisture estimate. When a blank qualifies — weekly loss below your threshold for a set number of consecutive weeks — Balvim flags it as ready. Log the finish-turn and it moves to your history, where a chart of average drying days by wall-thickness band helps you calibrate expectations for future batches. Balvim works entirely offline. No account, no subscription, no network connection required. Your blank data, weigh-in history, and shelf-card photos stay on your device. A built-in reference covers 60 common turning species with density and green moisture figures; add your own species or adjust any value. Multiple named drying rules let you apply stricter or looser thresholds to different species or blank sizes.Read more
