About
Pyroto Ataspu is the heat treatment companion built for serious knifemakers, bladesmiths, and small-shop toolmakers. Powered by a full physics engine grounded in proven metallurgical science, it simulates every stage of a heat treatment schedule — normalizing, austenitizing, quenching, cryo, and tempering — and predicts edge, mid, and core hardness, toughness, and wear resistance before you ever light the forge. Build your schedule step by step in the interactive editor. Choose from 26 built-in steels spanning simple carbon, low-alloy, tool, high-speed, stainless, and powder grades, or enter a fully custom alloy. The simulator runs a 21-node finite-difference model through your piece cross-section, tracking martensite, bainite, pearlite, and retained austenite fractions at every layer. Results include a complete risk assessment covering quench cracking, distortion, decarburization, grain coarsening, and incomplete carbide dissolution, plus a hardness depth profile, CCT diagram, tempering curve, and cooling curve charts. Not sure which steel or schedule to use? The Recipe Search engine sweeps your entire shelf against a target hardness, toughness floor, and wear floor, ranks the survivors, and loads the winner straight into the builder. When a run does not go as planned, the Post-Mortem tool fits your observed hardness and symptoms against nine systematic-error probes and surfaces the most likely causes with corrective schedules. The Shop Calibration feature learns your furnace offset and quench severity from your own logged runs, so every prediction tightens over time. Log every run with dimensions, photos, hardness readings, and symptom notes. Compare model predictions against measured hardness across your full run history. Track shop analytics, refine your process, and approach every heat treat with the metallurgical insight needed to get it right the first time.Read more
