About
Let your child learn their mother tongue — by playing. Darijaforkids teaches children and teenagers Darija: the Moroccan Arabic people speak at home and in the street in Morocco. Not the Modern Standard Arabic of textbooks, but the language of home — the one you call jeddi and jeddti in. In lessons of a few minutes, so your child can follow the conversation at their grandparents' table and find their feet in the country their parents come from. And quietly for the grown-ups: the same route, only faster. SHORT LESSONS THAT STICK A lesson takes two to four minutes. You learn to hear a word, recognise it, read it in Arabic script, type it and say it out loud. Every word comes back exactly before you forget it. THE PATH: SEVENTEEN UNITS, FROM LETTER TO CONVERSATION Not scattered lists but one route, each unit built on the one before it. A test at the end of each, and the next only opens after that. BEGINNER (A0) — the first six 1. Lhruf — the Arabic alphabet, letter by letter 2. Salam! — saying hello and goodbye 3. Ana w nta — me, you and who you are 4. L3a'ila — introducing your family 5. L3dad — counting to a hundred 6. Lalwan — the colours around you After this your child can introduce themselves, greet, count and read Arabic script. FURTHER (A1) — eight units 7. Lmakla — eating, drinking, tea · 8. Ddar — around the house · 9. Lmedrasa — in class · 10. Lhayawanat — animals · 11. Lweqt — days, time and weather · 12. Ljism — body and feelings · 13. Kanhder — saying what you do · 14. Su'al — asking questions After this your child can hold a conversation about home, school and how things are going. ON THEIR OWN (A2) — the last three 15. Fssouq — at the market · 16. Fin ghadi? — asking the way · 17. Lmghrib dyalna — country, cities and celebration After this your child manages in Morocco itself: haggling, asking directions, joining in. WHAT STANDS ALONG THE PATH • 304 words and phrases, each in five kinds of exercise • The complete Arabic alphabet, with each letter's shape at the start, middle and end • Four conversations to read, with questions afterwards • Three games: time race, memory and the letter game • Five bonus rounds that never run out, including tracing letters with your finger • A review pile that notices by itself what is starting to wobble A PIECE OF MOROCCO AFTER EVERY TEST Every checkpoint hands over a short film: fourteen cards in the order they happened, from the Roman town of Walili to the Tifinagh alphabet that became official in 2011. They are read aloud in your language, they end on a "did you know?", and they stay in your collection. EVERYTHING SOUNDS Every word and sentence can be heard: one tap for normal, two for slow. If your device has no Arabic voice, the app says so honestly and reads the Latin spelling as closely as it can. FREE TO START The first four lessons are free and stay free: three pieces of the Arabic script and your first words of Darija. The whole course comes with full access: the first days free, then € 5.00 a month on the yearly plan (€ 59.99 charged once) or € 6.99 a month, including VAT. Cancel in your own App Store account; cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing. MADE TO HAND TO A CHILD • No account, no login — a child fills in nothing here • Only a parent can leave an address for news, behind a sum • No adverts, no hidden costs • No chat, no sharing, no uploads • All progress stays on the device • Hearts can be switched off entirely — mistakes are part of learning • Works without internet, on a plane and in Morocco HONEST ABOUT THE LANGUAGE Darija differs from city to city and family to family, and has no official spelling. We use the form heard most in Casablanca and Rabat. If your grandmother says it differently, she is right — the app says so itself. https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/Read more

The app now starts with four questions: which language you learn in, who you are (your name and an animal), how you read along — Arabic script, the sounds in our alphabet, or both — and which colour you want. That colour sits on your buttons, your progress and your avatar. New is the diploma shelf. Every module you finish gives a diploma, and your parent or teacher adds a signature and a few words. After a subscription you land on your own card right away.
