About
A tool for savoring each day, fully. Not for getting more done, and not for filling every empty minute. Ichigyō Zanmai (一行三昧): to be wholly absorbed in one thing, body and mind. This app tries to do just one thing: give you more of that time in your day. 【Four pages】 ・Shikan: just this, one thing. Sit with a single task while a stick of incense burns down as your clock. You can use this page on its own. ・Ichijitsu: one line in the morning, "What matters to you today?", and one at dusk, "What stayed with you today?". Between them, a timeline shows what you planned and what you actually did. ・Samu: the work of each day. Choose the day you'll turn to it, and when it's due. ・Gyōji: what you return to, day after day. Daily practices, and ones for now and then. 【Ways to sit】 Ninnun (no set time, until you stop), Shōza (10 min), Ichiza (30 min), Itchū (1 hour), Jōjū (follow the clock), and Junkō (go round your tasks, one short sit each). Before you begin, settle the body, the breath and the mind. After an Ichiza or an Itchū comes kinhin, a few minutes of slow walking. 【Two ways to finish】 ・Let go: stop here and leave the task for later. The time you sat is kept. ・Mark done: this task is finished. Stopping partway is never counted as a failure. 【Shikunichi, the 4th and 9th days】 In Zen monasteries, days ending in 4 or 9 are set aside for tidying up. On those days, time to tidy what you carry, your surroundings and yourself comes to you on its own. For tasks you haven't touched in a while, the app asks one question, "Is this still yours?", then you choose one guidepost to keep until the next Shikunichi. 【No streaks, no scores】 Streaks aren't counted. Hours aren't ranked or totaled into charts. Each day, one of the Three Minds (Kishin, Rōshin, Daishin) is quietly offered. 【Your data stays yours】 Everything lives on your device. Only if you choose to sync across devices does the app use a hidden, app-only folder in your own Google Drive. Nothing reaches the developer. No analytics, no ads, no account to create. Also on Mac. iPhone and Mac run the same app and stay in sync. This is not an app for Zen training itself. It borrows how Zen treats time and action, and translates it into everyday work and life. You don't need to know anything about Zen to use it.Read more
