About
Know exactly what your connection is doing. NetDiagnose measures your real internet speed and gives you the tools to work out why it is slow — with every privacy disclosure written out in plain language before anything runs. REAL MEASUREMENTS, NOT A SYNTHETIC SCORE Speed tests run on M-Lab's open NDT7 platform, the non-profit research infrastructure used by researchers, regulators and journalists worldwide. NetDiagnose finds the measurement server nearest to your connection and reports download, upload, latency and jitter from genuine measurements against a real server. A COMPLETE NETWORK TOOLKIT • Network information — connection type, Wi-Fi status, public IP, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS resolvers, plus IPv6 readiness and cellular details • TCP ping — repeatable probes with average, minimum and maximum latency and packet loss • Traceroute — every router between you and a destination, hop by hop, with per-hop round trip times • Local network scan — the devices attached to your own router, with their addresses, hardware addresses and the names they publish • Domain to IP — resolve a domain to its IPv4 (A), IPv6 (AAAA) and reverse (PTR) records • Home screen widgets — your latest result and the recent trend, without opening the app PRIVACY YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ Most apps tell you to go and read the policy. NetDiagnose shows you the disclosure first and asks for your consent, and there is no way around it: • Before your first speed test you are told exactly what is uploaded to M-Lab — your public IP address, the measured values and a timestamp — that M-Lab publishes it as open data, and that you can withdraw consent at any time. • No GPS or precise location is ever requested. Server selection uses M-Lab's Locate service, which works from your network's IP address, not from where you are as a person. • No accounts, no advertising, no analytics SDK, no tracking across apps or websites, no advertising identifier. • Your measurement history, settings and consent choices are files on your own device. Delete them and they are gone — there is no NetDiagnose server to delete them from. • Local network scan results live in memory while the screen is open and are never written to disk. • A built-in Privacy Centre explains every data category in one place: what it is, where it goes, how long it is kept and how to withdraw consent. BUILT FOR EVERYDAY USE • IPv4 and IPv6, including IPv6-only networks • Light and dark mode • 11 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, Arabic and Simplified Chinese • iPhone and iPad • No account and no sign-up NETWORK SPEED PRO (OPTIONAL) Every diagnostic tool is free to use. An optional auto-renewable subscription, Network Speed Pro, adds unlimited measurement history, jitter and packet loss metrics, CSV and JSON export, the long-term trend dashboard and the home screen widgets. Weekly, monthly and yearly plans are available. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, the subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple Account settings. HONEST BY DESIGN Every tool runs only when you tap it. NetDiagnose never measures anything in the background, never runs on a schedule, and never sends data to the developer. To stay a good citizen on shared research infrastructure, speed measurements are capped at four per day per device — and the app tells you how many you have left. NetDiagnose is an independent app and is not affiliated with M-Lab. Speed measurements are provided by M-Lab's open, non-profit measurement platform.
