About

Walk first, then scroll. StepGate locks the apps that distract you most until you reach your daily step goal. Once you’ve walked enough, they’re free again – for the rest of the day. Tomorrow a new day starts. This turns every reach for your phone into a small nudge to move. Free, no account, and no tracking. HOW IT WORKS - Select apps: Individual apps, entire categories, or websites that should wait until the daily goal. - Set daily goal: Between 1,000 and 30,000 steps. StepGate suggests a suitable goal based on your last 14 days. - Start walking: Your steps are counted automatically – by iPhone and, if available, by your Apple Watch. - Unlocked: Goal reached? Your apps open automatically and you get a notification. MOTIVATING INSTEAD OF STRICT - Custom lock screen with progress ring, remaining steps, and estimated walking time - Don’t feel like waiting? Tap “Update steps” on the lock screen – if the goal is reached, the app opens immediately - Weekly overview and streak: See at a glance on which days you achieved your goal - Motivation instead of reproaches: “2,560 steps to go – approx. 26 min of walking, then the app is free.” EMERGENCY PASSES FOR EXCEPTIONS Sometimes it just has to be easy. With an emergency pass, you unlock your apps for 15, 30, or 60 minutes. You decide how many passes you have per week (0 to 7) – new ones every Monday. FAIR TO YOURSELF So the lock holds even when temptation is great: - A lower goal only applies starting tomorrow - During the lock, settings can only be tightened, not loosened - Optional: Prevent deleting apps during the lock - Lock time freely selectable, e.g. from midnight or only from 7 a.m. YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU - No account, no cloud, no server - No ads, no tracking - StepGate only reads your step count - Thanks to Apple’s Screen Time interface, StepGate doesn’t even know which apps you use and when - Developed in Zug, Switzerland NOTES StepGate is free. The app requires access to Health or Motion & Fitness as well as Screen Time and works on iPhone from iOS 17. An Apple Watch is optional – the iPhone also counts your steps on its own. Questions or ideas? Write to me via the support link – I read every message.Read more
