About
Explia makes the world's largest biomedical library readable. Every day, thousands of studies are published on sleep, food, exercise, stress, pregnancy, ageing… All of them are freely available in PubMed, the database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine — but they are written for specialists, in dense jargon. Explia is a plain-language search engine for everyone else: reliable studies, explained simply, with the original source always one tap away. ASK IN YOUR OWN WORDS "Does magnesium help with sleep?", "Is walking good for memory?", "Screens and children's sleep"… Explia turns your question into a PubMed search and shows the studies that answer it. EXPLORE BY THEME Twelve everyday themes — Sleep, Food, Moving, Mind & mood, Pregnancy & baby, Kids & teens, Heart, Ageing well, Long-term conditions, Gut & digestion, Skin & hair, Environment — and around sixty sub-topics, for browsing the research without knowing where to start. PLAIN-LANGUAGE SUMMARIES For the studies you open, Explia writes a plain-language summary in your language: the key sentence, what the researchers found, who was studied, the type of study and what to keep in mind. These summaries are generated automatically by an AI and clearly labelled as such; the original English abstract and the PubMed link are always one tap away, and the original text takes precedence. A RELIABILITY BADGE ON EVERY STUDY Not all studies carry the same weight. Explia labels each one by its method, from a review of many studies to a single expert opinion, and explains what that means. Retracted articles are left out, and studies done on animals or cells are flagged. FOLLOW WHAT MATTERS TO YOU Save studies, follow a theme or a search, and see at each visit how many new studies have appeared since last time. SIMPLE FILTERS, AN EXPERT MODE Most reliable study types or all of them, human studies only, time period, free full text, sorted by relevance or date. Expert mode shows the exact PubMed query, PMIDs, MeSH terms and a ready-to-copy citation. FREE, NO ACCOUNT, NO TRACKING Search, results, original abstracts, PubMed links, reliability badges, favourites and alerts are free, for everyone, for good. No account, no tracking: your saved studies, followed topics and search history stay on your device only. On the server, no request is ever linked to a person. Only anonymous, aggregate usage statistics, which you can turn off in Settings, help us improve the app. EXPLIA PLUS Your first 10 plain-language summaries are free. To keep reading summaries without limit, Explia Plus is an optional subscription, monthly or yearly, that you can cancel at any time. It changes nothing else: everything listed above stays free. COMFORTABLE TO READ English and French, light or dark theme, adjustable text size, a soft and calming interface. SOURCES All studies come from PubMed®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), part of the National Institutes of Health. Courtesy of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. The NLM does not endorse or recommend this application. Explia is an independent app. FOR INFORMATION ONLY Explia is an information and education tool. It describes what research has observed, never what anyone should do. It is not medical advice: talk to a health professional before making any decision about your health.
