About
On Paper is an offline household budget book on your iPhone. It never connects to your bank, never logs in on your behalf, and never pulls transactions in the background. You import a statement yourself. Sorting, totals, and advice stay on this device. Optional iCloud can copy your On Paper data to your other Apple devices, and nowhere else. WHAT IT IS A private place to see money in, money out, and what is left this month. Bring in a CSV from your bank or building society, match the columns once, and keep the books on the phone you already have. It is not a bank app, not a card reader, and not a service that asks for account numbers, passwords, or open-banking access. HOW YOU USE IT • Open Transactions and import a CSV. • Match Date, From, Description, Credit, and Debit, then add the rows. • New files add on top of what you already have. Duplicates from the same statement are skipped. • Assign a category, or let a rule do it the next time that From name or description appears. • Set a monthly target on groceries, eating out, or any expense category. • If you are paid on a day other than the 1st, set that in Settings so the month follows payday. OVERVIEW See this budget month at a glance: in, out, net, category spend, and spent versus each monthly target. Tap a category to open that month’s lines. Flip back through earlier months when you want the picture before this payday. TRANSACTIONS Every line you imported or typed lives in one list. Search From, description, and notes. Edit a row, select several to categorise together, or omit a payment so it stays in the list but drops out of Overview, category totals, and budgets. CATEGORIES AND RULES Income and expense categories stay in A–Z order. Expense categories show items, the monthly budget, and money out. When you set a category, On Paper asks whether to apply it to everything from the same person or company, everything with the same description, or only that one line. Recategorising locks the line so an old rule cannot pull it back. A rule can match From, description, amount, or a mix. After an import, apply rules to uncategorised lines if you want existing rows filled in as well as new ones. SIRI AND ADVICE Open On Paper once, then ask Siri things such as: • How much did I spend in On Paper? • What did I spend on groceries in On Paper? • What did I spend on groceries last month in On Paper? Spending advice is built from your figures on this iPhone. Apple Intelligence is used only when it is available on the device. There is always a local summary if it is not. PRIVACY On Paper does not connect to your bank. It does not use sensitive banking information from this iPhone, and it does not upload your statement to a company server so someone else can read it. Your household figures stay on this device. If you turn on iCloud, Apple copies that data only between your own devices signed in with your Apple Account. Turn on Face ID or Passcode lock in Settings so the budget is hidden in the app switcher and locked until you unlock the app. YOUR DATA Settings lists each CSV upload so you can remove one file’s transactions without wiping the rest. Export writes a CSV of what is on the phone. Reset deletes everything on this device and restores the default categories. WHO IT IS FOR Households that want a clear month on paper, without giving an app the keys to a bank. If you can download a statement, you can keep the books. On Paper.
