About

Sutamaya is a reader for the Early Buddhist Texts: the Pali discourses in Bhikkhu Sujato's English, with the Pali a tap away. Everything is inside the app, so it reads offline from the first launch — on a plane, on retreat, or in airplane mode. The whole canon, easy to move around in The four main nikāyas and the Khuddaka books, arranged the way they are actually read: collection, chapter, sutta. Pali beside the English, word by word Show the Pali line under each segment of translation, and tap any Pali word for its entry in the Digital Pali Dictionary, without leaving the text. Highlights, notes and lists Highlight passages in one of three colours, write a note on a sutta, and tag suttas with words of your own. Save suttas to your own lists and group them into folders. What you've recently read, highlighted and noted is kept as lists of its own, automatically. Search Find a sutta by its number, title or description, or search the text of the whole canon in English or Pali, along with your own notes and lists. Set the page the way you read Typeface, text size, line height, light or dark. Verse, headings and speakers are set the way the source marks them. No account needed Everything works without signing in, and nothing you do leaves your device. Sign in only if you want your lists, notes, highlights and reading history on your other devices, and in the browser at app.sutamaya.org. Free, with no ads and no tracking. English translations by Bhikkhu Sujato, from SuttaCentral, with some editorial changes. Pali definitions from the Digital Pali Dictionary.Read more
