About
Eight questions on the civics test have no answer. Not a hard answer — no answer. USCIS prints "Answers will vary" or points at its own updates page, because the answer depends on where you live or on who holds office the day you are interviewed. That is one question in sixteen. On a 20-question interview, you will probably be asked one of them. Preamble is built around that. WHICH TEST DO YOU TAKE? USCIS switched to the 2025 civics test — 128 questions, 20 asked, 12 correct to pass — for anyone who filed Form N-400 on or after 20 October 2025. Filed before that date? You take the 2008 test: 100 questions, 10 asked, 6 to pass. It is decided by your filing date, not by preference. Preamble asks for your date and tells you which applies. Both lists are included in full. THE EIGHT WITH NO ANSWER Your senators. Your representative. Your governor. Your state capital. The President, the Vice President, the Speaker of the House and the Chief Justice. Other apps either print "Visit uscis.gov" as though that were the answer, or bundle a list of names that goes out of date at the next election. Preamble ships no officeholder names at all. It links you to the authority for each one, records what you found and the date you confirmed it, warns you when an answer is getting old, and drills you on your own answer alongside the rest. Your state capital is filled in for you, because that is the one that never changes. EVERY ANSWER USCIS ACCEPTS Ask "What is the form of government of the United States?" and USCIS accepts Republic, Constitution-based federal republic, or Representative democracy. Some questions have twenty-four acceptable answers. An app that shows you one teaches you that your own correct answer was wrong. Preamble shows all of them, word for word from the USCIS list. An automated check proves on every release that all 918 question strings appear verbatim in the government document they came from. THE TEST IS SPOKEN, SO THE PRACTICE IS TOO No multiple-choice buttons. A real interview is an officer asking and you answering out loud, and picking one of three options is far easier than recalling the answer cold. Preamble shows the question, waits while you say it aloud, reveals every accepted answer, and asks you to mark yourself. THE MOCK INTERVIEW STOPS WHEN THE REAL ONE WOULD The officer does not ask all 20. USCIS stops the moment you reach 12 correct — or 9 wrong, so real interviews are shorter than people expect. Eight questions on the civics test have no answer.
Not a hard answer — no answer. USCIS prints "Answers will vary" or points at its
own updates page, because the answer depends on where you live or on who holds
office the day you are interviewed. That is one question in sixteen. On a

Preamble is built around that.
WHICH TEST DO YOU TAKE?
USCIS switched to the 2025 civics test — 128 questions, 20 asked, 12 correct to

THE EIGHT WITH NO ANSWER
Your senators. Your representative. Your governor. Your state capital. The

accepted answer, and asks you to mark yourself.
THE MOCK INTERVIEW STOPS WHEN THE REAL ONE WOULD
The officer does not ask all 20. USCIS stops the moment you reach 12 correct — or 9
wrong, so real interviews are shorter than people expect.
