About

Proviant tracks the food you have, whether that's a week of groceries or months of stored supplies, and tells you what to use before it turns. Scan a barcode, type the date on the packet, and it's tracked. Items are grouped by days left, soonest first, with a notification when something's close. Mark a jar opened and its date shortens, since an open jar keeps for less than a sealed one. ROTATION, NOT A MEAL PLAN Each time it runs, the planner reads everything you own and suggests what most needs using. Not recipes, just an item and a reason: "Expires in 2 days," "3 cans left, use them up gradually." Allergies, medical and religious exclusions, and age limits are hard rules, never overridden. Hold more of something than can be eaten in time, and Proviant flags it months ahead rather than in its last week, with freezing, batch-cooking or giving away as the way out. It's the problem a large stockpile runs into, caught early instead of at the back of the shelf. A SHOPPING LIST THAT WRITES ITSELF Tell Proviant when to restock: on opening, on running out, or below a level you set. WORKS WITHOUT A SIGNAL Only the barcode lookup needs a connection. Everything else runs offline: on a plane, in a cellar, or during the week you stocked up for. Also included: a home-screen widget, nutrition by day, week and month, twelve shelf-stable recipes plus your own, several people per household with their own needs, metric or US units, nine languages, full local backup with CSV export, and syncing to another phone nearby or through a shared folder. All of this is free, with no ads and no limit on what you record. PROVIANT PLUS One purchase, no subscription, adds three things: inviting another Apple ID into your household, kept in sync automatically over iCloud, planning two weeks ahead instead of one, and a stockpile target. Set how long your stores should last, and Proviant compares what you hold against what your household needs and pushes any shortfall onto the shopping list, in real weights and volumes. Every date is one you typed in, or an estimate of how much sooner an opened pack spoils. The app can't see or smell what's in the jar, so the packaging and your judgement come first. Product data and photos from Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), under ODbL 1.0, DbCL 1.0 and CC BY-SA 3.0.Read more
