About

Unflinch is practice for the hard conversations new managers actually have: the missed deadline, the feedback they won't hear, the "cover for me", the boss who adds work without adding people. You type or say it out loud, they answer, in text or in their own voice if you turn the speaker on. The other person has a position, things they know and won't volunteer, and things they will never concede. Say it clearly and they engage. Get vague and they drift. Push too hard and they dig in. They don't cave just because you were polite. When you're done, you get an edit, not a score: • Your tone across the whole conversation: Firm, Too soft, or Too harsh, with the line that shows it. Polite is not the same as clear. • What you did on Clarity, Understanding and Next action — each one Done, Almost, or Focus next time, with the exact line from your conversation that earned it. • Your one line to revisit, and what to say instead. • A 3-line prep card you take into the real conversation. • On boundary scenarios, a check on whether you held the line — not on whether they ended up happy. Then try it again with one focus. Same person, same starting point, and you'll hear the difference. After the real conversation, one check-in. Three taps and a line, and Unflinch hands you the next conversation to practice. No streaks, no badges, no scores. TWELVE SCENARIOS With your report: 1. The First 1-on-1 — a former peer is now your report 2. The Missed Deadline (Again) — free 3. Feedback They Won't Hear 4. Cover for Me — a boundary 5. My Bad — your unclear brief caused the rework 6. The Raise You Can't Give — a boundary 7. I've Got an Offer 8. Before You Blame Him — you might be the one who's wrong 9. Why Not Me? — a teammate got the promotion With your boss: 1. More Work, Same Team — free, a boundary 2. Not This Weekend — a boundary With a peer: 1. Borrowed Engineer FREE AND PRO Two scenarios are free, twice each — enough to practice, get feedback and try again. Unflinch Pro unlocks all twelve scenarios and unlimited retries: $7.99 a month, or $49.99 a year with a 7-day free trial. PRIVACY Practice uses AI. If you speak your lines, your iPhone turns them into text on the device; audio is never recorded or sent. Your messages are relayed by our server (which keeps no conversation text) to Anthropic to generate replies and feedback. If you turn the speaker on, the other person's lines (never yours) are sent to OpenAI to be read aloud. Conversations and prep cards are stored only on your device. You can withdraw consent or delete everything in Settings. Keep it fictional: use made-up names and leave out confidential details. Versions

  1. Version 1.2.0First seen · 28 Sept 2026

Feedback now starts with your tone. One verdict on how you carried the whole conversation: Firm, Too soft or Too harsh, with the line from your side that shows it and one sentence on why. Polite is not the same as clear, and getting a yes is not the same as holding your ground. No scores, as always. Everything from 1.1 is unchanged: speak or type your lines, hear the other person if you turn the speaker on.
