About

Thicket listens, and tells you which birds are singing. It runs entirely on your iPhone. No signal, no account, no upload — the model is on the phone, so it works the same in a wood in November as it does in the garden. Nothing you record leaves the device. WHAT IT DOES Names what it hears. Species likely where you are, this week, with a confidence of High, Medium or Possible — and it says Possible when it means it. Shows you the sound. A live spectrogram, ten seconds at a time, with each bird's calls drawn in its own colour. Drag back through two hours of the session to find the one you missed. Plays it back. Hear any detection again before you accept it. Knows when to stay quiet. A bird is flagged the first time it sings, then left alone. Mute the robin that won't stop; snooze it for an hour; or mute everything the range model calls common and listen only for what isn't. Keeps a notebook. Every session with a bird in it is saved — where, how long, what sang. Mark the ones you actually saw; exports only ever include those. Tells you what's about. Recent reports from eBird and iNaturalist near you, rated Common to Rare, with the five best places to go. Opt in and it will tell you when something notable turns up nearby. WHAT IT DOESN'T DO No subscription, no streaks, no badges, no account required. Sign in only if you want your history to survive a lost phone. HONEST ABOUT THE LIMITS Identification by sound is hard, and Thicket gets things wrong — most often between species that genuinely sound alike. Treat Possible as a question, not an answer. Confidence percentages aren't yet calibrated against field results. — Identification uses BirdNET V2.4, developed by the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Chemnitz University of Technology, licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Nearby sightings from eBird and iNaturalist.Read more
