About

Cook from the recipes you already have. Take a picture of the card in the drawer, or paste the link to the blog post you keep going back to. Torrere turns it into steps you can follow at the stove. Then tell it what you'd change, say half a batch, or cheddar because you're out of Gruyère, and the recipe itself changes. Next time you open it, it's the version you made. IT READS CARDS, LINKS AND PASTED TEXT One card we tried came from Pinterest. It gives three cook times: 20 minutes at the top, 20 to 25 in the directions, and 10 to 20 at 450° for the bacon, which you only find by following the star and the arrow. It never says when the bacon goes in. Torrere wrote it out as eight steps and cooked the bacon first. If the method's on the back of a card, send both sides. Reading from a photo is part of Chef. YOU CHANGE A RECIPE BY SAYING SO Ask for half a batch, or a third less sugar, however you'd say it out loud. Half a batch of those egg bites starts with 6 eggs. Out of something? Say what you've got instead, and the lines that used it change. EVERY CHANGE IS SHOWN Each edit comes back as a short list of what went out and what came in, so you'd see 2 cups shredded Gruyère crossed out and 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar in its place. Undo puts back what the change replaced. IT REMEMBERS YOUR KITCHEN Mention once that your oven runs hot, or that you've only got one sheet pan, and Torrere keeps it in mind for every recipe after. COOK MODE IS ONE STEP AT A TIME The type is big enough to read from across the counter, and the screen stays on, so it won't go dark halfway through cracking 12 eggs. Timers come from the step that mentions them and keep counting when you put the phone down. You can ask a question mid-step without losing your place. When a recipe needs planning, the first step tells you how long the whole thing runs before you begin. YOU PICK THE MEASURES Cups or millilitres for liquids, ounces or grams for weights, and °F or °C. Change one and every recipe switches over, including the temperatures in the steps and the recipes you saved last month. YOU CAN SHARE A RECIPE AS A LINK Anyone can open it without an account or the app. It's a copy of the recipe as it was when you shared it, and you can take the link down whenever you like. TWO THINGS TO KNOW There's no voice control yet. Torrere can state a wrong oven temperature as confidently as a right one. That's why every change is shown to you. If a number looks off, check it before you cook. CHEF IS THE SUBSCRIPTION Chef is $12.99 a month or $99.99 a year, after a week's free trial. It lifts the limit on how much you can use Torrere, and it reads recipes from photos. There are no ads, and nothing about you is for sale. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it in Settings, your name, Subscriptions.
