About
Ukama is a small, quiet place for you and the people in it. Take a photo. Say something about it. Send it to your tribe. That's the whole app. NO FEED TO SCROLL There's no algorithm deciding what you see, no follower count, no likes. Postcards appear in the order they were sent, from the handful of people you chose. When you've seen them, you're done. ENCRYPTED BEFORE IT LEAVES YOUR PHONE Every postcard is locked on your device before it goes anywhere. The photo, what you wrote, and where you were are all sealed with a key only your tribe holds. Nobody else can read them, not other people using Ukama, not us, not whoever is carrying the data. There are no accounts, so there's nothing to sign up for and no email address to hand over. Your identity is a key on your phone. There's nothing on our side to leak, because there is no our side. CAPTIONS WRITTEN ON YOUR PHONE If you'd like, Ukama can suggest a caption by looking at your photo. It runs entirely on your device using a language model you download once, your photos are never uploaded to be analysed by anyone. It's optional, and the app works exactly the same without it. A MAP OF WHERE YOU'VE BEEN, TOGETHER Postcards with a location gather on a map only your tribe can see. Somewhere you keep returning to becomes a single pin holding every postcard left there. There's nothing to compete over, just a slowly filling record of the places you've all been. SMALL BY DESIGN Tribes are invited in person by scanning a code, or by a link and a separate passcode. There's no search, no discovery, no suggested friends. The only way into a tribe is for someone already in it to let you in. Anyone can leave whenever they like, and a tribe can always let someone go. Ukama is a Shona word. It means kinship, the bond you have with the people you belong to.Read more
