About
Trailmark is an independent podcast hosted by Ray Targosz: long conversations with adventurers, authors, and other interesting people, about expeditions, books, games, work, health, and the strange decisions people make when a project starts running their life. This is its own app, built by hand for the show. It is made for the trail first and the couch second. PACK FOR THE FIELD Pack any episode before you leave and it plays where there is no signal, audio and transcript both. The Kit shows what you are carrying and how much room it takes. EVERY WORD, SEARCHABLE Each conversation comes with a full transcript that follows along as you listen, marked every five minutes like trail mileage. Search across all forty-four episodes for a word, a name, or a place, and land on the exact moment it was said. A PLAYER MADE FOR LONG CONVERSATIONS Speed, a sleep timer, fifteen-second skips, and auto-play for the next episode. Your place syncs between your own devices through iCloud, and the widget on your home screen puts you back where you were with one tap. Some conversations were filmed; those play as film in the same room, and you can switch to audio at the same second. READ Field Matter's written tales sit beside the episodes they came from: essays on the guests and the ideas, with the moments they quote one tap from playing. NOTHING BETWEEN YOU AND THE CONVERSATION No account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking of any kind. If something goes wrong, Settings has a Report a Problem screen that shows you every line of what it would send before you send it. Trailmark is free. Since 2024.Read more

Finish a conversation and it gets stamped. The stamp stays on that episode's page, and the next one on the shelf is offered where you are. The first time the app opens, the sun comes up over the ridge. Hold any episode for a short menu: play it from the start, pack it, share it, or mark it heard if you heard it somewhere else. Drag your finger down off the scrub bar to scrub more slowly. If you jump too far, a button takes you back. The sleep timer fades out instead of cutting off, and saves your place a little before the fade so you pick up where you were still listening. A pack removed …
